Placenta

Hi ladies,

I had my big scan 3 weeks ago and my baby was lying face down so had to return today for a rescan - I'm 23w5d.

Just saw on my notes after I left that my placenta is now in the anterior position where as it was posterior 3 weeks ago? Is it normal for it to change like this? What is the normal position for the placenta to be in?

Nothing to worry about

The position of the placenta corresponds to where the implantation took place in the womb right at the begining of your pregnancy. As long as the placenta is not "low lying" ie covering your cervix (which means you can't give birth naturally), you are absolutely fine, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. The only difference is that if the placenta is at the front of your womb (anterior position I think), it might muffle the kicks of your baby so you might feel baby kicking for the first time a bit later than if the placenta was at the back. But to be honest, I have an anterior placenta and I've felt baby kicking since I've been 14 wk pregnant .
good luck with the rest of your pregnancy,

Hiya hun

Ive been looking through my notes and like you my placenta is anterior. I asked about this at my scan a few weeks ago and i mentioned it to my MW, as long as the placenta is not covering the cervix it's fine. Its just if it was, you wouldnt be able to deliver your baby naturally.

Hope this helps a bit. xx

Hey hun

Im not too sure on this one myself. On my notes my 20 weeks scan says the placenta is posterior and on my 21 weeks scan it says fundal (at the top). I had my scan exactly a week later.

Im guessing it must be normal, or they got it wrong in the first place. lol.

Sorry I can't help.

Hi

Hiya, I know the normal position is posterior ( at the back ) anteriors when its at the front.

I've read a few people on here have it so I'm sure you'll get some helpful replies shortly
