Hi Christine,

My 37 week bump has always been back to back and has never gone the other way. The midwives all tell me that sitting forward e.g on edge of sofa resting on dining chair can encourage them round. Also sitting forward on a birthing ball and lying on your left side as much as possible. This is supposed to encourage optimal fetal positioning. Apparently best position for babe is on your left side with its spine running down the front of your bump. The theory behind it is that when you sit back on the sofa it creates a hammock inside you where baby is happier staying back to back. If you lean forward as much as possible (in the olden days we would have been scrubbing floors!!!) it encourages babe to hammock the right way round.

I dont think any of this is crucial and ive spoken to plenty of women who had back to back babes. Think it just makes labouring easier for you and babe.

Hope this helps but you could always ask your midwife if your worried.

Whole thread for the following message:

I have heard that if your baby is in this unfavourable position spending some time everyday on 'all fours ' frees up some more space for your baby to swivel side ways. This also helps to alleviate backache . Try leaning over a footstool while watching the tv etc.

Good luck and bear in mind that some babies just like this position and nothing you can do will move them until they do it for themselves !

all the best

Hi Christine (and bump!)

Is the midwife worried? I was told that they aren't concerned about the baby's position until you get to 36 weeks, so you still have three weeks to jiggle him/her around into position! I think they can try to manually turn the baby as well, can't they? I'm only 20 weeks, so I have all this to look forward to! But if the midwife isn't worried, don't worry yourself.
