Hi,

My father in law has to go into hospital for a serious operation in NHS hospital this week for 8 days and I would like to visit him.

I am 8 weeks pregnant and am worried that it may not be safe to visit him as I might contract something.

I hope I am being just over caucious. Does anyone know?

Sally

"Don't worry"

I'm a nurse, and in all the years i have worked in the NHS, i have never picked up any type of bug, and i dare say i would be more likely to contract something due to constant exposure. There is always alcohol gels to use before you enter and leave hospital wards... just be vigilant, make sure you use them... you'll be fine honey xx

Hay there are all sorts of sick people in there, adn the cleaning? well we all know about that!
Its normal to be worried, but to be honest there are just as many germs on a bus. My advice (I work in infectious disease control)is to take some handwipes with you. Anti-bacterial ones and use them after you visit.Clean your hands before you eat anything with them, and again after touching anything around the toilets...sensible precautions..you'll be fine.
