Hi everyone just a couple of questions for you?

For most you i've only got my BFP yesterday and it says 3+ wks which is roughly they say 5wks pg.

I'm due for a smear test soon and wondered if i still need to have it done and can they do it while your pg?

the other question is a bit mundane really just i've read that you're meant to sleep on your side when your pg but when do you actually do this is it now or when you start getting bigger and you haven't much choice in the matter?

Thank you girls.

Thanks again girls

yep i will definitely sleep on my belly or back as long as i can then.
I have yet to go to the doctors which i'll be doing next wk and find out all or as much info as possible about the smear test etc... and if i can leave it till much, much later i'll be very happy about that as i just hate it.

thank you for all your advice girls, it is much appreciated.

Hey

Congratulations on your BFP, I would ask your Midwife or GP about the smear,

As for sleeping, sleep how you like i was worried when i was first preg about sleeping on my belly but my MW said it was fine as the baby was well nestled and protected! Lying on your back is fine too.

enjoy it while it lasts, before no position is comfortable

Hi sherri

Firstly congratulations!!

I have read that you can sleep in whatever position until about 20 weeks, then its recommended that you don't sleep on your back because if can effect on of your main arteries and reduce blood fllow to baba, THIS IS ONLY A COULD! They do say it's best to sleep on your left hand side because it helps baby to get into a good birthing position and i have noticed when i watch births, on tv, etc that at hospitals they like you to lie on your left when expecting...

I am due a smear to but will wait till a bit later, i think it's ok but i would rather wait a few months...

Hi sherri...

...firstly huge congrats on your BFP, i keep an eye over on ttc since i got mine.

well you can still get a smear when your pregnant, i didnt realise that until my sister in Australia got one when she discovered she was pg (we're both due 19th Jan 10!!!! ) i think its safe once the cervix is completely closed. i had my last smear in feb this year just before i got pregnant and it came back abnormal so the nurse decided to send me for a colposcopy because id had abnormal cells when my 1st daughter was born 10yrs ago, now im still waiting for appointment for colposcopy but asked midwife at 1st hosp appointment if its safe to have it done and she said yes once its after 28 weeks as thats when the cervix is safely closed to have the procedure. so id go ahead with your smear, once your doctor agrees its ok and you feel ok with it.

as with sleeping on your side, i fall asleep on my side but always wake up on my front! not sure if theres a hard and fast rule on it, i think its as long as you feel comfortable doing it, god knows in a few months you'll sleep in any position just to get asleep LOL i think was sammie said is right though about arteries and nerves!!!

hope this all makes sense and your keeping well!!!

Hey sherri

When i first went to see the midwife she told me not to have a smear until after the baby was born.

So i'm not sure the answer to it really, it seems the midwife's in the world all have different thoughts.

Take care

Congrats on the BFP.

They should still do a smear test i read in my pregnancy bible that they even can do treatment if need whilst pregnant

You can actually lay on your back all the way to 40 weeks if you like the reason they say after the 4 month or so to stop is that the baby is big enough to put weight on one of your main artierys (sp?) which can make you dizzy if not faint - although to get dizzy you would need a lack of oxygen which i guess would make the baby suffer so prop best to not sleep like this if it makes u dizzy at all... I tend to wake up alot on my back...

If this is most comfy for you though i lay a pillow down one half of my back from head to bum way so that i am at a slight angle - if that makes sense...

Hey

hey hun

Congrats on your BFP!!!!

I cant help you on the smear test question but as for the sleeping one, this applies to when your bigger. Its perfectly fine for you to still lay on tummy or on your back. I was about 16 wks and since i wasnt showing at allm i was laying on my belly ever now and again , as bubba is so well cushioned. Even now at 26+1 im still very comfy on my back but try not to always sleep on it as they do say that sleeping on your left side helps circulation to the baby more. I think thats how it is lol

Hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months

Emmy & 26+1 bump

Thanks emmy

That's finally answered one of my questions, it's weird but even thought they tell you in the books they don't really tell you when to roughly start doing it. I'll try to remember that.

Thank you very much
hope you're doing grand yourself.

Thats ok

Thats ok hun

Ans yeah i guess there isnt really a set period from when you start doing it as every womans bubba bump grows at a different rate and ends up being a diff size. Its really when your showing abit more and when its uncomfy for you. You will know when the time is right. Liek right now i can lay on back but no way can i lay on tummy just wouldnt be comfy. Plus the big deal with laying on your back is that the babys weight puts pressure on one of your major veins but as long as your comfy its still fine. They say that when laying on your back you WILL know when its starting to get uncomfy.
