Well back to work today
I only work for a small company (18 people) and because i had a small operation at the beggining of the year which ment taking 2 weeks off, which they payed me for, and then being signed off for a week means i have had 3 weeks off payed, so apparently she is well whithin her rights??

But i dont really know who to ask as i dont wanna make things worse for myself... might just have to try and deal with it for as long as I can, and go on maternity leave a bit earlier than planned? How far gone is it normal to start maternity leave?

Hi Kat,

I know how you feel with the sciatica as i have that as well and have been signed off for quite a while as i can hardly put any weight on my right leg half the time. Your work should not penalise you for this as it is pregnancy related, and where i work, that is not counted as normal sick days, so you get full pay. Talk to your HR dept and see what they say, and when the dr signs you off, make sure he writes pregnancy related. Also, if you have health care (private i have mine thru work) then see if they cover things like that and ask for physio, they may give you some crutches to help you out while stood up and walking.

Good luck with your wan*ey boss

Hey hun

Unfortunately a lot of work places are like this. Do you have a contract stating how many days sick you get at full pay!

We use to get all of them paid in full until people started taking the ... and threw sickies!! Then he reduced it too 7 days full pay, statutory pay after you'd been of for 4 days in a row, but if you had 1,2 or 3 days off and have already used up all your 7 paid days we got nothing, had it deducted from our pay!!! I dont think there is any rules unless its in a contract.

I too have a wanky boss who would do anything to get out of paying if he could!!

Do you have a senior member of staff you can talk too??

I hope you get it sorted hun and try not to let them get too you

What a bunch of t@*ts!!!

Why do certain companies think they can treat people like this!! I was treated awful by my employer when I was pg with my daughter, and I hated them for it

I would defo check your contract hun. It depends what the company policy is on sickness. It usually depends on how long you have worked for them and what rights they want to give you. For example if you have worked for them for 2 years they will probably give you around 4 weeks sickness a year. If you have used all of the 4 weeks throughout this year, then they can drop you down to SSP. So you need to check your contract to see what it says. I only just found this out, as I called my mom to ask for you as she is a HR Manager lol.

Otherwise if your still unsure, you can call Citizens Advice Bureau for help and advice. I agree what they are doing to you is pants, and if I was you I would put a Grievence in. All you need to do is check your companies grievance proceedure and follow it, which usually means you have to write a letter to the head manager stating what you are not happy with, and then they have so long to make a satisfactory response to them. They usually offer to change somthing, that might you feel happier. If your not happy then you can go further.

I hope this helps hun, let us know how you get on. Fight it, don't let them get away with it lol

Well out of order....

Hi kat,

That's well out of order, there must be some advice you can get on the subject. It's discrimination...

Stay strong, get some advice and sock it to em!

Evil evil people!!!

Have you got a contract? If so what does it say in there. I would go to citzens advice cos they can't disgriminate cos you're pregnant.

I would look into it further, that' s so unfair, i could just swear on ur behalf.

Take care

that is cruel

hello
that is really cruel!! have you had allot of time off in your work year so far??
i know ours runs from jan - jan and i have been here 2 years now so get sick pay but that is only paid to me if they feel it is a good enough reason.
now if i was signed off it would be paid to me as that is a valid reason a doctor feels im unfit to work!!!!
what more proof do they want!!!!

do you have a hr department???
