Length of maternity leave

Hi Ladies

After informing my work, the HR department emailed me today and I am slightly confused and was wondering if there is a differance between companies.

It stated that the length of time is 26 weeks ordinary maternity leave followed by 16 weeks extended. so 42 weeks in all,

I had thought that the leave period was 52 weeks? regardless of how much of it is paid.

Just wondering if this could be right?

Many thanks in advance

Statutory is 1 year.

I work for local govt and we get a year (they assuem you will take the yr unles syou tell them otherwise!) the last 3 months of which is unpaid.
I get 6 weeks at 90% pay, then 12 weeks at half pay plus SMP, then th rest up to 39 weeks is just SMP.

Im only taking the 9 months paid.....can only just afford that too no way I could afford to take unpaid! Have to figure out how to pay for 2 days a week childcare when I go back p/t too.....eeeek! May have to get a evening job in tesco!!!

Like the others have said though you are defo entitled to 1 yr, with 39 weeks paid (if you have been int he job long enough) if not you still get SMA (allowance) paid differently for thos who havent been in there jobs long enough to qualify for SMP - but its the same amoutn as SMP

My job

Hey hun i know with my company i get 6 months paid maternity leave, first 6 weeks at 90% of original. Then i can take another 6 months unpaid if i wish.

But i plan on taking the 6 paid and then another 3 unpaid. and then seeing how i can manage childcare , if i cant manage to sort anything i am comfy with then i may just quit work all together until bubs is older.

Hiya

You will get 9 months payed, and you can extend your maternity leave to12 months but the last 3 months you will not get paid for.

Hope this helps
p.s this should apply for all companies as far as i know

Its probably...

the length of time you are paid for, I have taken a year out and get not a penny for the last 3months.

You should just clarify with your HR department- what they mean but everyone is entitled to a year off.

Hope this helps.
