Random question: do easy/difficult births run in families?

My mum popped me out in 4 hours and my little brother in 2! the same with my maternal Nan, she had a quick labour. Is it possible it could be genetic? god I hope so as I am cacking my pants!

Hey

I asked my midwife this last week, because my mom with the 4 of us only had one good birth, she had alot of complications, i.e pre-clamsia and i was breech, also my sister had to have 2 c- sections as she had too much fluid around both her children, so i have been abit worred, but she said it doesnt make a difference as everyone is different..

love suzanne 30 weeks today wooohooo xxxx

well funny you should ask this.

i was told when i went in to have my first that if my mum dilated quickly when giving birth, then that was something that they needed to bear in mind as it does have a tendency to run in families. sadly for me she did not, and had a 36 hour job with my brother and over 30 with me.

the good news is that just cos mum had a tough time, didnt mean i did! 9 hours with my son and 1.5 hours with my daughter.

my friend was told the same by her m/w when she had her son - they actually asked her if her mother had had a quick birth as it was 'relevant'.

apparently the 'running in the family' bit can apply with quick dilation and thus labour, but obviously it isnt always the case.
