Anyone had ecv?

We had a presentation scan this afternoon due to both the midwife and doctor being unsure of how the baby was presenting.

The baby is a frank breech with feet up by its ears.

We have been given three options:
1. vaginal delivery though they are concerned as the baby is estimated to be about 8lbs 8ozs already.
2. ECV
3. Elective c/s

I have to admit to being very nervous about going for a c/s due to the fact that obvioulsy it is surgery and the recovery time is longer.

I am leaning towards trying the ecv first.

Has anyone had this procedure and can offer any words of wisdom?

i had one!!!

I found out Archie was breech at my 40 week appointment. I was booked in to try and turn him and I must say it was the most horrendous pain I have ever felt in my life, and I have a high pain thresh hold!! I had 2 doctors, one on his head and one on his bum pushing and pulling. I was sobbing in pain and had to ask them to stop.

I then had a C-Sec 2 days later and it took them over 2 hours and 4 1/4 pint of blood loss later to stop me bleeding and get my Uterus to contract back!! I still think it was the act of trying to turn him that caused these problems!!

the fact that your babys feet are by its ears makes it easier for a vaginal birth. Archie had his legs straight out across my pelvis so I had to have a C-sec.

Apart from the first few days which you are obviously in pain, I was fine by the second week, I was doing most things just at a slower pace.

Archie was a big boy too, 8lb14.5 at birth.

I hope you get on ok hun

I had the ecv....

and it was bloody painful. It didn't work unfortunately and I ended up spending Friday nigh and nall day Saturday in hospital.

I am ok now and have had a session of moxibustion this afternoon and am having another session tomorrow.

Anything is worth a try...anything to avoid a c/s

Hey

hey mines breech im 32 weeks my other 3 children were not at this stage my cons said if still breech at 37 weeks then i can try labour which somethink can go wrong and need a c section anyway get them to turn baby which i wouldnt do as read about it and not only can it not work u can need a c section there and then if they move baby and the heartbeat can get dis so id op for c sectiion only if i cant go normily birth which iv had 3 already but wont let them turn her at all xxx

I have

I had this done in my last pregnancy with my little boy...... I wanted to try this to avoid a c/sec.......... sorry to be the bearer of bad knews but it is more painful than giving birth...but... it is worth not having the c/sec. I was in that much pain after his 1st attempt at turning baby i was literally bouncing on the bed in pain! They injected something into my hand to stop the 'fit like bouncing' Then on the second attempt it worked - thank god! If this happened to me again though i would still go for the baby turning rather than 6weeks or so of pain from the csec. So it IS worth the pain.
Good luck in whatever you choose, and i am sorry to tell you it was painful for me, remember everyone is different though so you may be fine.
All the best of luck

Ecv

Hi Nicke,

Its been ages, glad to see this pregnancy had held for you, mine too, now at 38 weeks..not long now.

I don't have any experience of ECV, I only know from friends that it can be very painful and is only successful in about 50% of cases, definately a preferred option to a c/s though I would say.

I do however have an alternative for you...accupuncture. I used accupuncture to help me concieve and maintain this pregnancy and although I guess it could have just gone ok anyway, I really do think it has had some part to play for me. The potentially useful bit for you about all this is that my accupuncturist has had a number of successes in encouraging babies to turn on their own and all it takes is a trip or 2 and a couple of needles - and best of all no pain or surgery.

Hope all goes well for you whatever you decide

Hi rachel

I have been ahving acupuncture throughout the pregnancy as well as homeopathy. I started with the homeopathy after the third miscarriage and we then started acupuncture after the 4th...I firmly believe that this baby wouldn't be here withoiut both!

The guy who has been doing my acupuncture has been trying to turn the baby for the last couple of weeks as it was suspected breech. I am currently taking a homeopathic remedy as well which has a good success rate!

Nothing appears to be happening though other than baby kicking more!

We see the consultant tomorrow and we have decided to try the ECV and we know worst case,if it doesn't work is the elective c/s.

I have to be honest I am so sore and uncomfortable I don't think having the c/s will be any worse!

I dont have any experience but..

Hey

I dont have any experience of any of this but i was reading up about ecv as im soon to be 30wks and bubs has been breech since 20wks, so im just preparing myself JUST in case

From what ive read in general about the procedure and also about ladies that have had ECV its apparantly extreamely painful and not necesarily sucessful.

Me personally i would rather go for a c/s, its surgery thats true but its sucessful if you know what i mean but like i said that would be my choice.

You need to choose whats right for you also you want to make sure that the ecv doesnt cause the baby any distress because that could increase your chances of ending up with a emergency c/s.

Sorry i wasnt much help!
