Is it ok to lie on your back

Hey was just wondering now im in the third trimester is it ok to lie on your back? afew people have told me I can starve my baby of oxygen, but i find it very difficult to lie on my sides as i suffer with really bad heartburn and it seem to make it worse..

Hey suzanne

I asked my mw this about 2 weeks ago as i was having real bad back pain but because i kept sleeping on the same side all the time as like you i had heard that it wasnt good.

I read that babys weight puts pressure on one of our main veins , havent heard of it depriving the baby at all. Anyway my mw asked me why i kept sleeping on my left side and i said because i heard that was the best position for the circulation to baby although being on my back was the only real comfy position.

She told me that as long as i am comfy that its perfectly fine to lay on my back and if it becomes uncomfy during sleep that my body will know and that i will turn myself over. She said as long as my head is on a pillow or two that its completely fine or even if you turn your belly slightly to the side.

So i would say as long as you are comfortable then its fine, its if you experience any discomfort of dizziness that you should def change position.

I also have been experiencing real bad heartburn now and ealrier in pregnancy just make sure you have your head slightly raised and also i find that camomille tea helps me and of course gavscone mints are my best friend lol

Hope that helped slightly

Hey

Yeah hun i wouldnt worry.

I trust my mw, shes one of the good ones i have to say ive been lucky lol

Yeah i think with many ladies its because of big bumps, if your anything like me your bump doesnt look as big as how far along you are.

No one would say im 8 months although bump is measuirng big , its weird. But yeah i deff think its all about how bubba is positioned, what your body shape is like and just in general how big and heavy your bump is.

I have been sleeping on my back more since i asked midwife and just being able to sleep on my back has helped me big time.

So enjoy tonights sleep!!

Not sure tbh

i know that when i was pregnant with my first i found it quite diffucult to lie on my back because my bump was that big, i found it hard to breathe properly myself.. i was never told not to lie on my back by my mw so i doubt it can cause any serious harm.. if in any doubt give yr mw a call 2morrow.

Good luck..
