Had my baby finally!
Hi all,
I gave birth on fri monring at 00:51 to a beautiful girl, Teagan Amelia, 7lbs 2oz.
I posted when I was in hospital, but don't think it went through properly?
It was a nice quick labour this time 4 hours 31 mins in total!
I went to see the midwife at 11:30 and she did another sweep and said that my cervix felt more than ready for labour, was short and 0.5 cm thick and 2-3cm dialated. She did the sweep and stretch and sent me on my way. I had a bloody show afterwards.
That night, we got curry for dinner and while hubby was making it I thought, I'll just pop to the shops and get a fresh pineapple as another encouragement for things to kick off. (however never got a chance to eat it!)
Got home at 8 and sat down to dinner, had a pressure in my bum and lower back at 20:18 (looked at the clock just in case it would turn into anything) However have been having these in the evenings the past week or so so didn't think too much off it. 15 mins later I had another, 10 mins later another, slightly stronger, 8 mins later another. Because of what the midwife had said that day and because I went from 3cm to 10cm in 10 mins with my first daughter(however took me 37 hours to get to 3cm!), I was told to go in to be checked at first twinge, to see if it was labour, so I called my parents to get them to come over to babysit and called the hospital to let them know I would be in shortly. My parents arrived 30 mins later and by then they were definately contractions, coming every 3 mins, however they were still quite bareable. I got to the hospital at 21:30.
It was all very laid back. I explained that I would quite like to use the pool as pain relief during the labour and to help reduce the risk of tearing. They slowly over the next hour, took my blood pressure, heart rate, listened to baby and eventually checked how dialated I was, I was still only 3cm. The contractions were getting more intense though so started on the gas and air. At 23:00 I finally got in the pool which was lovely. It didn't overly help with pain, but could still use the gas and air, and was so nice to lay back in the warm water and relax in between contractions. An hour later I decided I had had enough of the water and wanted to get out, so got out, changed into dry nightie and back to the original room, shortly after I got there I started thinking that an epidural would be nice, as is so tempting when you are in pain to be pain free! The midwifes kept telling me how great I was doing, but that wasn't really making it any easier! Anyway my husband suggested that midwife do another internal to see how far I was to help me make up my mind, I was now about 8cm dialated and midwife really didn't think it would be long. After two more contractions I felt the urge to push. 1st push and my waters broke, next contraction pushed through and head was out, next contraction pushed through and she was born!
I have a slight 2nd degree tear but is nothing like the tear I had with my first daughter so think being in the water really helped to soften the skin.
We were home by 12:30 on fri and are settling in nicely. My older daughter (21months) is over the moon about having a baby and surprisingly doesn't appear to be jealous at all (yet!)
Teagan is feeding little and often and having wind trouble (mainly at night typically!) but is doing really well.
Sorry it was such a long story, even though it was a short birth!
Hope everyone else is doing really well.
Kat, Avilee (21 months) and 2day old Teagan
