Swine flu jab

Hi lovely ladies and bumps, i trust everyone is well, despite it being a little chilly! Roll on a nice warm bump to keep me warm!! - Not just the thick waist I have now!!

Can i ask what you are all planning to do about getting the swine flu jab, I HATE injections but would obviously have one if it meant i was protecting myself and bubs from being ill. Touch wood - I never get coughs and colds and I work with children in a school, I think my immune system is pretty strong (I know it weakens in pregnancy) basically are there any risks to the jab? I know fellow staff members at school who have had the regular flu jab have had flu symptoms and sore arms for few days after they had it.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice or knows more about the jab. Not sure i trust my MW - she seemed a bit of a ding bat when i first met her!

Have a good day.

Hi Em,

It was me that placed a post last week on this topic, its a tricky one, I suffer with astma and and have had the every day flu jab but im 99.9 % sure that i wont be having the swine flu jab, i dont think that there has been enough testing done on it and as i belive it unlike the normal seasonal flu jab it is a live vacine so you will fell pretty s..t where you dont with the seasonal jab as it isnt live . Its hard because all you want to do is the best by your children, i dont think anybody can answer the question as to whats best apart from you.

Take Care

Hiya ems

Like Amanda says I wouldn't personally have it, but that's just me, as i'm not in my second trimester i can't have the normal flu jab which i would have got this month as i've got asthma, so my mw asked the doctor and after a chat advised against me having it and just avoid anyone with the flu as by the time i get to my 2nd trimester the flu period would be over.

i've got a friend whose wife had the swine flu and only she had it despite them having two girls ages 5 and 7 and i've been in face to face contact with him since then and i never got it.

it is up to you but i don't think i'll be getting it myself, they need to do more research on the vaccine before they should offer it to pg women and children maybe next year when most the panic is over which the media has hyped up and more research has been done i'll have it.

Take care hun.

love and hugs

Hi Ems, how are you feeling??

There was a post on this a few days ago to which a few of us answered. It is really personal choice and up to you. I will not be inflicting this on my body or unborn though.... As i said in my last post we went to dinner with a GP and a few other friends. I was about to have a sip from my first glass of red wine, during my pregnancy.... As i had reached 30 weeks i thought it would be ok to indulge. I was wrong, he quickly lectured me saying how crucial this stage was and not to have any!! At this point i thought i would pick his brains a bit about jabs in general. I am against them after doing loads of research into them. I didn't know how he would react, he could have told me to get dosed up, etc. Anyway, he told me not to have it as the research is not enough, etc. Even the medication (tamiflu) is not advisable. He even said when baby is born to give the baby the vitamin k drops and to wait till 24 hrs after birth as they are so strong also and not to give the baby the injection (which i was going to do anyway). He is researching the effects of vaccinations etc. I could have talked to him for hours about the matter. Do you know how many GP's are not getting vaccinated against swine flu?? It's quite a lot.

It's not just the jab, it's what is mixed with it. The best thing for you to do is a bit of research on the matter and draw your own conclusion. No one can really advise you what to do, this is just my opinion and what i am going to do with my baby and body. There is loads of info out there about it.

I am keeping healthy, eating well, resting, taking my vitamins and what will be will be. My parents have flu injections every year and since having them catch a really bad dose every year...??!!!???

Good luck and take care!!

Hi amanda

I am fine, got a 2 week half term so making the most of lazy lie ins and cat naps in the day!!! Gonna be hard to get back into the routine, but hoping the tiredness will have gone and I will be filled with this new lease of zest and energy!!!

Needless to say, its the day before my scan so am a little nervous, mostly excited but there is the slight fear there....i also have until sat to decide on nuchal scan. Is it worth spending £250 on???(not free in our area) My risk of probs should be low but I am told its the best scan with he least risk in the whole of pregnancy. However the results could just lead to more worry necessary or not!!!

I agree to be cautious bout the jab. I have heard or read nothing to convince me to have it. We are all different and entitled to our opinions but I don't think its for me. read loads of websites and spoken to friends who are also g.p's and nurses. Even they don't want it but as they are working in hospitals feel they have to. I eat well, exercise, take vits etc also.

2 weeks!

Hiya, 2 weeks, mine only get 1 but i can't wait for the chill time and no mad rushing of a morning!!!

I don't really know anything about the nuchal scan. I have just had the standard ones and no tests for anything else. I am nearly 36 so still quite a low risk for downs, what will be will be. All i know is she SHOULD have lady bits and one head - lol.. I was watching ANOTHER birthing program, the couple had been told it was a girl, guess what? It was a boy!! I have opened all my baby things and washed them so if it turns out to be a boy it will be in pink for a while....

Just doing a bit of research and it says nuchal scans are carried out between 11-13 weeks for downs. Would they not have checked that at your other scan anyway?? If they thought anything was going on i am sure they would have told you to go for one??.... I think i remember you saying you had already had a scan?? Maybe i am wrong...

Anyway, do what you feel you must do. If you have a niggle about anything get it, if you feel like everything is well don ... s a lot isn ... 3d scans are cheaper than that!!

Take care and glad you're doing so well!! Are you showing at all yet??
