Please help...

Hi,

I am 15+3 and have had an appt today with the midwife. am now really paranoid. she listened for a heart beat and couldnt find one (after answering her mobile half way through).
she then said "not to worry, we shouldnt really listen before 16 weeks".
help, i am going crazy, what if somethings wrong?
i work in a vets and have used the scanner this afternoon but it is too early to see with our scanner, its not sensitive enough. I have rang EPAU and they can get me in on monday. i dont know what to do, i cant concentrate.
i thought about getting a doppler but where can i get one NOW???
sorry for the rushed message, i am at work and they said i could spend 10 minutes looking on the forum for advice.
any advice would be appreciated.

Hey hun

Like the others have said, try not too worry, everything is probably fine. I too work at a vets, I was constantly using the scanner when I was worried. I also had a Doppler, I bought the HI BEBE one, bit like the mw had, I used it from 18 weeks but my friend who has it at the mo used it earlier and heard her baby so they are obviously quite sensitive. I just typed doppler into the search and just looked through all the sites. You can pick them up from mothercare but Im not sure how early you can use them. A stethescope is no good, you cant hear anything with them until a lot later.

If I was you, I would take myself to a&e saying i had stomach cramps, I know its a fib but at least then you'll mind will be put at rest.

I hope you get it sorted hun, keep us updated x

Hi..

She's right, usually they don't try to locate the heart beat till a bit later as it does take ages to locate at this stage. They cause to much panic in the mums when they can't find the heart at this stage, that's why they mostly leave it till about 18 weeks...

Don't worry (try not too anyway).... It's perfectly normal.

Hey leanne

I am not sure i can help much but they do say that babies heartbeat may not be heard until 16 weeks and if the midwife didn't seem too concerned then i would try and relax.

Everyone is different and if she wasn't paying much attention she might not have tried very hard. i know that when i go to the midwife she always looks in a different place than what i find it at at home, it's always much lower at home which i can't understand surely she has the experience.

You could try ordering a doppler for next day delivery or Zoe posted on here saying she was going to get a stethascope.

Keep me posted.

Take care

Love

Clare xx
