"Had to give up work as was so sick!"

Hi there,

For the first 3 and a half months of the pregnancy I was being sick 8 times a day and collapsed at work. Being this sick I felt like I couldnt work like that so handed in my notice.

I am now 24 weeks and I feel fine now, would really like to go back to work but there are no more vacancies there.

I am feeling so frustrated being at home and I am so worried about money and the future.

Not sure what to do now, or who would have me.

I am thinking of joining an employment agency for temporary work till the end of August as the baby isn't due till September 18th!

Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do?

Well, yesterday I plucked up the courage to go into town ( all on my own!) and apply at some temping agencies...

They got me to fill in an application form and said if anything comes up they will call me.

I am not holding out too much hope! As the lady said they mainly just get factory or cleaning work and it would not be suitable for me in my condition....

I'd really like a job! Feeling quite desperate now, wish I could go back to my old place but they dont have any temporary vacancies at the moment.

I guess somethings happen for a reason and its just not meant to be!

"Well done"

hey at least you have been and had a try...have you thought about going to a local nursery, dont know if you'd like it or not but they're always looking for temp people to cover hols and sickness...especially the local authority family centre ones, just give a few a ring and explain you're situation. it would be a way of still meeting people and learning new things too!
hope you find something soon, i know how you feel, i've been off sick for four weeks and cant wait to get back on monday there's only so much homes under the hammer and phill n fern you can be entertained by! good luck xxx

Thank you for the advice.
Not sure if they would have me though as I have no experience in nursery work!

Not sure I could cope with loads of screaming kids at the mo! I will have to soon though as I am 25 weeks preg!
Its going to be a bumpy ride!

I might try a few more agencies and there is one more supermarket I haven't tried yet but it would be a bit hard to get to.

I want my life back! - only joking!

Best Wishes,
Natalie x

"Important to know"

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that happened to you. I think that looking into temp work is a really good option - go for it.

I also wanted to say, and I realise that this information comes a bit late for you, so please don't be upset, but everyone should be aware that there is no need to resign from your job if you are sick as a result of pregnancy related sickness. Sure, your boss will be annoyed, and you most probably won't be paid for the time off, but you should be allowed to keep your job and there are laws protecting pregnant women from being dismissed for that reason. I am an employment lawyer and I hear stories like this all the time. There is no obgliation on your employer to explain these things to you, which is why a lot of people don't know.

Anyway, given that you are only now just starting to feel like working again, it won't have made much difference at all - so go for the temping work, which will be wonderful and flexible, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank you for the advice, its so good on here and everyone is really supportive.

I now wish I hadn't of handed my notice in, but I felt so so sick and couldnt see any other way out.

I shall ask around for temping work - fingers crossed!
Feeling really sick again today and its bucketing it down so shall get back on it tomorrow!

Many thanks & Best Wishes,

"Sick note"

hi, i was feeling really rough at 9 wks, i'd battled through 4 wks of being sick and feeling awful, i just went to the doctor and he signed me off for a few weeks no questions asked...my boss has been a bit 'off' with me but hey its only work, i know what you mean though it gets very boring and a bit lonely when you're home all day, i think a temping agency is a really good idea, that way if you fancy a few hours after materninty you can always stay on there records. what kind of job did you do?? x

Thank you for your advice!
I used to work for a supermarket, but enjoyed it as I had lots of customer contact and got on with most of the people there.
I am just feeling abit isolated now, even though my partner works from home. I miss being out in the really world and mixing with people!

I am definately going to give the temping a go though....
Thank you! x

i had the opposite problem with my first! i was constantly sick for 24 weeks and was admitted to hospital with dehydration, as soon as i hit 24 weeks, it stopped and i found a temporary job until baby was due. it really helped to take my mind off things! i can't do that now though cos i have 2 children & they keep me busy enough!!
