Have you received your matb1 yet?

Hi all, I've just realised that I forgot to ask midiwfe for MATB1 last week. But am frustrated as to why I should be chasing for things like this!!
I'm 25+3 now and it says everywhere that I should have been given my MATB1 at week 20 and now HR are asking for it.
Why are midwife's so slow?

No midwife.

Just be thankful you even have a midwife. I'm at 32 and a half weeks, and no contact from a midwife or anyone. So I'm actually having to do everything myself.

Why are midwife's so slow

Fact: Because it is not a midwife's priority and you are not the only one she will see in a day. The MATB1 is the least of her worries so reminding her is not the end of the world.

No

I'm also 25 weeks and I had forgotten about this MATB1 until I just saw it in my weekly bounty newsletter.
I'm seeing my MW tomorrow, but again why should we be chasing? how are we to know these things, when the people in the know arn't even telling us.

Hi

I don't even see a midwide until 28 weeks - last time I saw her I was 10 weeks. It does say in all the info you get your MATB1 form at 20 weeks from midwife but in my area they won't even let you see her (unless something is wrong of course).

So its down to the individual to make an appointment with their GP and get one - where I am anyway.

I think antenatal care is RUBBISH!!!!!

jules 24+6

Matb1 form

i got mine last week at my 25 week appointment some people get theres earlier but usually hand it to them before the 15th week before your due xx

Ask gp

i was waiting for mine, so just rang and asked my GP who wrote me one within minutes.

Hi

Cheers Amz - I think I will. Is not the time in our lives to be stressing over little things like this is it.

Matb1

Hi Kavvy,

I received my MATB1 today and im am 27 weeks - hope this helps...

Midwifes arent very officient. Mine hasn't weighed me at all which is a little worrying, I have a bit of a bump now and I have worked out that ive put on 2 stone so far..

Claire xx

Matb1

that reminds me - I need to ask for mine, too!

RE the weight thing, I read somewhere, possibly in the NHS handbook, that they no longer check weight as everyone is so different that weight gain doesn't really mean anything. A friend was told that her bump looked too small and was referred for a scan (where it turned out that everything was fine, she was just carrying small).

No height or matb1

Hiya Kavvy

No, haven't had mine either - or had my height checked. I told her a guestimate height at 8 week booking in apptmt and she just took that! I haven't seen same MW twice either, four different ones so far!

K x

The guestimate is purely to work out BMI should you require an anaesthetic, doesn't have to be exact but women should be advised regarding their diet and up to them not to pig out during pregnancy or they put their health and babies at risk.

Same problem

i asked for mine at 20 weeks, didnt get it, each time i asked i never recieved it, today i went up, i asked for it, she said she's get it, i came home without it, but she did phone to say I FORGOT IT!!!!! cheeky im now 28+5 weeks!!!!!

to be honest i think this midwife has her head in the cluods, as she asked me 3 times how many weeks i am, very unsettling indeed.

i havent worked since i was 5 weeks gone due to the dangers at my work, but at least i've been paid full wages.

good luck getting your MATB1 form.

Forgot !!! what

the mat b1 form is the last thing on a midwives mind. there are not enough midwives usually 1 looks after over 100 women. Do you think a form is the first thing in their mind, i am sorry but midwives have a lot more important issues to deal

Grrr.

We must havethe same midwife!! She initially measured me at 131 cms - I'm actually 168cm - that was at first appt. My husband has absolutely no faith in her at all!!

Hi

That was just my height! Hasn't she measured you height? I'm losing all faith in the system..

Crap midwives

i really thought i was the only one with a crap midwife!
im 25 weeks pregnant and I have only seen mine once! i hav had various appointments at the hospital for various tests etc but not once was my midwife present!

I just thought this was the norm until i got talking to my friend!
She is only 8 weeks pregnant and lives in a different area and had her first midwife appointment last sinday. her midwife sounds fanstastic! spent over an hour with her, giving her lots of info- even talked about the birth options!
She already has been booked in for another 2 appointments!

Its disgusted how the care varies across teh country - we all pay taxes so we should all receive the same standard of care!

I have an appointment to see her on Monday and I have a whole load of questions to ask her ... one of them being - where will i actually be giving birth!!!
so annoying. Makes me so angry!

Totally agree

I totally know how you feel, Im 23 weeks now and havent seen my actual midwife once. At my booking in appointment I saw someone else as my midwife was on holidays. I assumed as her replacement didnt mention another appointment that they'd write to me and let me know when I would need to see her again but no, I tried to phone her to ask when Id need to see her but got no reply back from her. Eventually gave up and decided to ask when I had my 20 week scan and they told me to phone my surgery and make an appointment so finally going to see her tomorrow YAY!

Fed up with lack of care!!

I am now just past 27th week stage with my 1st baby, and have only had 1 appointment with the midwife - at 10wks to take my family history.
I booked my own antenatal appointment with my GP, after phoning the antenatal clinic and leaving several messages without receiving a reply. Apparently because I live in 1 estate and am registered with a GP in the neighbouring estate I don't get to see the midwife as you have to be registered and living in their catchment area!!
As for my MATB1 form ... I was meant to receive this at 20wk stage, and have just received it in the post today, after making at least 5 phone calls which isn't cheap as I currently don't have a landline!
I think it's about time they realised that for us to trust them (delivering our babies and dealing with the aftercare) they need to provide a better service.
I have recorded my own height using my doorframe, and have monitored my weight at home - making sure that I do it first thing in the morning, before eating/drinking, and making sure that the scales are in the same place everytime. So far I have gained a whole 8lb Am feeling very good about myself at the moment, but am dreading the next stages.
Did you also know that if you are a negative blood type you should have an appointment with a midwife regarding something known as 'Anti-D'?? My GP told me this and I have an appointment next week .... maybe I should let them know how we all feel as new / expectant mothers?!?

Weight?

There seems to be an obsession with weight amongst many women, its not routinely required antenatally. What information would it provide? NOT MUCH

If you really want to know the role of the midwife and see if she is doing her job look up the NICE guidelines and NMC (National Institute of Clinical Excellence and Nursing and Midwifery Council).
