Hi S have just come across this website, and thought I'd see if I could offer some advice. I am also new to being pregnant (am 31 weeks with my first child). I suffered a miscariage in january, but was lucky enough to fall pregnant again almost straight away. I think miscarriage is a natural worry for all mums to be, so your not alone in that thought. I suffer with endometriosis, so was not unduly worried when I started having bad constant tummy ache abut 6 weeks into my pregnancy. It was only when my feelings/sensation of being pregnant (heavy boobs mostly) stopped that I was concerned. Despite this, it took me about another 5 weeks before I miscarried. I think what you describe as period pain feelings is totally NORMAL!It is your bodys way of adjusting to being pregnant, and you may feel like this for about 3 months worth of would be periods. I am convinced I miscarried becasue I ate a whole load of blue soft cheeses at the christmas time, despite knowing I shouldn't. they say soft cheeses can cause miscarriage, and I'm sure this was what done it for me. I was being so silly and ignorant thinking pregnancy isn't going to stop me doing normal things, but I soon realised you have to take the advise that is offered to you. This time round I haven't eaten anything I shouldn't and have been so careful with everything.Even though i am now 31 weeks, that doesn't stop me constantly worrying. You are taking your folic acid daily, that is the main thing at this stage, and ensure you are having plenty of fruit, veg and milk - all obviously healthy stuff.Constipation can make your tummy feel sore, so ensure you are getting plenty of fibre. You will be fine. Its a scarey time isn ... especially when we're so new to it all. Its hard to know whats normal I think all us new mums could do with a mentor! I've been constantly bending my sisters ear for advice, but its nice to talk to other new mums to be. Sorry for wafflig on, I hope I may ahve been a little help. Good luck with the baby. Just ensure you get plenty of rest and listen to when your body is telling you its tired. good Luck!

remember to take folic acid every day, eat well (even as tempting as it maybe to eat junk food i cant get enough of mars bars at the moment!lol) and try not to worry everything will be fine.

It was such a relief to read your post and the replies. I've been convinced since I saw my GP earlier today that I'm on the verge of miscarrying as I've got what I can only describe as period pain - I'm five weeks as well. Can't bear the thought that I may be this stressed for the next seven weeks - everyone tells you to relax but it's much easier said than done! None of my friends know I'm pregnant yet so it's a real comfort to be able read advise from other women. Thank you.

I'm five-and-a-half weeks along now, with my second. I also have lower tummy pains and also had them with my first, so don't worry about it - just run to the loo more often, no one will judge you!
Folic acid = great. Just remember to take it every day.
Hope you've also cut out things you're not supposed to eat in pregnancy: alcohol, blue cheese, caffeine, eggs (runny ones, as they're unpasteurised), liver (yuck!), meringue (unpasteurised egg), pate, peanuts, pineapple (apparently fresh pineapple can cause contractions, who knew?), rare meat - well cooked all the way, soft cheese.
Take gentle exercise and don't lift anything too heavy.
If you're doing these things, then you're doing everything right - keep it up. If anything goes wrong then it's just fate. Bear in mind that stress won't help the situation so calm down a bit!
Congratulations, hope everything is really good for you!

Dont know how reassuring i can be i am about 7 weeks pregnant and am also worried most of the time, every time i feel a pain every time i go to the loo and time is dragging until the inevitable 12 week countdown i think it is all completely normal especially when the baby is really wanted, didnt realise mine was until the stick turned and me and OH were both ecstatic.
I have been having the odd cramp and period like pain a few times a week from what i have read this is perfectly normal.
Good luck and you are far from alone in this a lot of people feel like this i think
