"I took a hot bath while pregnant....worried"
Posted by angela022 2 November  at  14:49

I am 17 weeks pregnant and I have taken a few hot baths during my pregnancy. I knew you shouldn't use commercial hot tubs or saunas but I never worried about my bath until I felt water that was 100 degrees and I know my bath water is warmer than that. 100 degrees felt lukewarm. Now I am afraid I have harmed my baby. Ihave read things online saying it causes birth defects. HAs anyone else ever done this and if so, how has your outcome been. I am very worried!

"Baths - don't worry"
Posted by katya691 2 December  at  14:34

Throughout my whole pregnancy I had my usual hot bath every night. My midwife confirmed that the only slight danger would be to myself would be passing out with the heat due to increased blood pressure during pregnancy. So just don't stay in too long or you'll go light headed. I have a lovely healthy 6 week old.
"Hot water bottle pain relief???"
Posted by gailington 30 November  at  18:40

I'm a bit worried now, i've been having these (minor-ish) cramps for a couple of weeks (5 weeks pg approx) and and have started using a hot water bottle held to my stomach to relieve the pain, like you do with period pains. Now I'm worried I shouldn't be doing that!! I also was so stupid I didn't realise I had to take Folic acid BEFORE getting pregnant, hadn't done that (taking it now though), plus have been taking Rescue Remedy for panic attacks for ages, and during this last month. So I'm wondering what else I'm doing wrong to this poor child!! Does anyone know if using the hot water bottle is dangerous to the baby, like some are saying hot baths are? I'm scared now....!
"Hot baths"

I was told (by my Doc)you shouldnt bath between the 8th and 13th week because the risk of misscarriage is high. Other than that as long as you are having a normal???? (I mean no bleeding or cramps etc) pregnancy then a short bath (10 minutes) shouldnt do any harm! I asked ``well hey who lays in the bath for only 10 minutes`` -I mean I need more than that to get the bath and surroundings ready - So sadly for the time being I have given away with my hour long soaking in an arse burning bath - I will wait until after my pregnancy!

When i was 7 weeks pregnant i got into a hot tub not knowing it's bad.I called a after hour nurse hotline number freaking out and she told me, you would have to be in hot water 24 hours in order for it to harm the baby.So a few mins of a hot~warm bath shouldn't do anything.

"Hi, i'm only 5 weeks pregnant and did the same"

Last night, I had a very hot bath and didn't even think about it until later when a friend phoned and said "whas was I thinking?" as it is advisable NOT to have a hot bath in the first trimester. However I've been reading conflicting information on the net. Just wondering how eerything went OK for you and you had asked on this site as I am very worried now too. Thank You
"I'm sure it will be fine!"

I don't think it's possible for a bath to be as hot as a sauna, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get in it!

You can't abstain from hot baths for nine months, I wouldn't worry about it I love baths and my kids turned out alright!
