| Thread started by: | "8+5 weeks pregnant bleeding on and off?" Posted by ruthy123 22 June at 21:10
I woke up this Wednesday morning and visited the bathroom, when i wiped there was a lot of bright red blood...I panicked as you can well imagine. I managed to get a scan that morning at my local fertility clinic as i was so worried. The bleeding had stopped by the time we got there (9.45)...it was only first thing (6.30) and only on the toilet paper. Thankfully there was a fetus, 19mm with a good heartbeat - I cried with joy! BUT there was a darkened area on the scan and the Doctor said he couldn't be sure what it was but to rest, not to go to work/shop/do housework etc... I have done just that and was relieved that there was no more bleeding...up until this morning (Friday)...same thing again, only first thing (8am), only when i wipe and it seems to have disappeared by mid morning (10am) I don't feel that i should phone the clinic everytime this happens but really would like to know if anyone else has had this and why it's happening? I am sooooo scared, I even worry if I cough/sneeze/turn over in bed. I have been off work since Wednesday and don't know if and when it's safe to go back. Can anyone give me some much needed re-assurance??? Please, I need to feel positive otherwise this worrying I know will make things worse.

Hi, I hope you are doing better. On 7/9 morning I noticed a little blood on the tissue but then it went away. I went to my first appointment with a nurse and had a urine test and blood test. The next day when I got home from work around 1:30 I noticed blood on my underwear. I was sooo scared of miscarrying. I went to the ER and they told me I had a threatened miscarriage. I took time off work and still bleeding. HAve you found out what happened? Are you still pregnant?

Hi I myself experienced the same thing when i was six weeks pregnant. I suggest you speak to your doctor and try to do an ultra sound to verify that everything is going well. In the meantime try to rest as much as possible and don't worry too.

I still am having on/off light bleeding and am now 12 weeks pregnant.I have had my dating/nuchal scan and blood/urine tests etc and baby or 'Peanut' is looking very good with a good strong heartbeat, measuring 51mm last Tuesday. It's not nice seeing blood, and I still dread that first call of nature in the morning and if i'm honest it's not doing too much for my relationship in the bedroom department either as I'm scared and I seem to bleed after every intimate moment! I was told to take it easy earlier on too and was signed off work for 2 weeks, I'm glad I took this time out but am aslo glad I'm now back at work as I'm not thinking about bleeding/miscarrying all day/everyday just every now and again!!!! - I think this is very normal, and all/ alot of pregnant woman are exactly the same! My midwife has told me that the baby is doing just fine and to not worry about the odd light bleed.spot, some unfortunate women have this unexplained bleeding for a few weeks and some throughout the whole of their pregnancy, just try and relax, take it easy, get plenty of fluids, eat as healthily as you can...this is all you can do other than do your best NOT to worry...this alone may cause further problems. I also have progesterone pessaries to help, is that something you have been offered? If you need some more advise please do not hesitate to post again or send a private message....I KNOW what you are going through and it's not nice and unless someone has been in a similar situation it's not easy for them to know what to say. Take care, congrats on the pregnancy and keep me informed!
regards
Ruth

I too have unexplained strange bright blood sometimes just like you.
While it's not something I am complacent about, I've heard it can happen during pregnancy, usually at the beginning but sometimes throughout. I also had surgery to remove a cyst (7 years ago) which has scarring that has no doubt become very vascular. I am having more regular scans and check ups than other people.
Keep your doctors/nurses informed and be pushy if you need to be and do not rely on one doctor's opinion, just on the off chance they miss something.
Take care, stay healthy and all the best.

Sammy,
Thank-you for your comments, I'm not sure just how common this is but feel happier that i'm not alone. I'm scared to go to the loo these days, worried about what i will find. It doesn't help as I have no pregnancy symptoms (other than tiredness) either, I'm supposed to be 9 weeks and 4 days today but yet I don't even feel pregnant.I have phoned the clinic a couple of times now for some reassurance, they just say it's probably my hormones!!! They have said they will see me again next week if i'm still bleeding on/off and still anxious/worried. I think i'll be paying them another visit next week no matter what!! Thanks again, and all the best to you xxx

Me neither. I know exactly how you feel it's so scary.
I had another scan today and the sonographer identified that the corpus luteum on my ovary had become inflamed and there was some fluid surrounding the ovary. Apparently this is a fairly common reaction and my ovary is temporarily 'at war' with my body!!! She said this is likely to be causing strange bleeding and of course, after the internal scan I am bleeding again.
Oh and the only obvious symptom I have right now is tiredness too. I am only about 6 weeks pregnant though. Very very mild nausea is apparent occasionally typically evident as a lack of appetite as opposed to vomiting.
See if you can get another scan organised for peace of mind.
