Bicornuate uterus

Hi,
Im 22 and 34+ wks pregnant with my first baby. I was told at my 21wk scan that i have a heart shaped uterus. I thought nothing of it untill now. I had a growth scan at 32wks because they though it was a big baby but as it turns out is avarage but a little on the tall side. At the moment the baby is transverse (breech position but side to side) and i have been asked to go back when i am 37wks to see if the baby has gone head down. If the baby is still breech i have been told i will be booked in for a csection! I have done some reading up on 'bicornuate uterus' and what it all means, if the uterus dipps in the middle i dont see how the baby will have room to turn? The doc at the hopital did not mention anything about turning the baby or giving birth naturaly so am thinking that it will probably be a csection after all. Just wondering if any one else has a heart shaped uterus? Had a little info for me cos quite worried!

Thank you x

Bicornate uterus

hi i have a heart shaped uterus too and am on my 2nd pregnancy, they didnt go in to much detail when i was pregnant with my daughter so i didnt follow it up, only after a difficult labour i am now. she was breech also and we talked about a section but nothing was booked. i went into labour a wk early which is commen with us as babies run out of room, and she had turned but not to the right position she was face up, they tried to turn her during labour witch was excrutiating. if u can get them to scan you when you think ur going into labour to check position and i would advise a section if its not as i tore really badly therefore getting a section this time! good luck! x

Bicornuate uterus

I am 31 and 14wks pregnant with my 3rd child. I had my first child and was told I had a heart shaped uterus after I was in labor for 16 hours. Then the dr. said the baby was side ways so I hade to have a csection. when in OR they dicovered the bicornuate uterus. I was shocked and wondered why haven't anyone discovered this before then. My daughter was only 4lbs 14oz at birth but she is now an active 11year old. When I got pregnant the second time everything went good the baby was on the correct side because one side is bigger than the other. Now she was born Natural and weighed 4lbs 7oz. She is now a healthy 5 year old. So I am excited for this pregnancy just hope everything is fine I go for ultrasound this Wed. to make sure all is well. Hey we are all unique with this uterus. Stay positive and good luck!!!!

HI I AM A 28 YEAR OLD GIRL , AND MOTHER OF A BEAUTIFUL 2.5 YEAR OLD GIRL. I FOUND OUT I HAD A BICORNUATE UTEROUS WHEN I WAS 22 YRS OLD,AND WAS SCARED. THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE PREGNANCY THAT LASTED 3.5 MONTHS I WAS BLEEDING FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE UTEROUS ,BUT MY BABY WAS GETTING ALL THE FOOD HE/SHE COULD EAT.THAT IS WHAT IS CALLED A THREATENED MIS CARRIAGE. I WAS PETRIFIED ABOUT GETTING PREGNANT AGAIN. THE STUFF I HAVE LEARNT ABOUT HAVING THIS TYPE OF PREGNANCY IS THAT WHEN THE DR. SAYS BED REST-HE MEANS BED REST. ONLY GET UP TO GO TO THE WASHROOM IS WHAT I WAS TOLD, AND SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED WITH EXACT PRECISENESS. MY SECOND PREGNANCY WENT WELL BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE WITH NORMAL PREGNANCYS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CRAMPS THAT I ALWAYS GOT. IT WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I GOT TO 25 WEEKS OF PREGNANCY AND STARTED EARLY CONTRACTIONS. I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND THEY PUT A SUPPOSITORY IN ME AND IT STOPPED THE CONTRACTIONS. I WAS ADMITTED AND 2 WEEKS LATER I DELIVERED A BEAUTIFUL AND MIGHT I SAY HEALTHY GIRL.SHE WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 2.5 MONTHS BUT I WAS LUCKY AND SHE IS FINE. I WAS TOLD SHE WAS ON GROWING ON MY LEFT SIDE AND STARTED GETTING SQUISHED BECAUSE THERE WASNT ENOUGH ROOM FOR HER INSIDE ME. HER NOSE WAS SQUISHED BUT ISN'T ANYMORE THANK GOODNESS AND HER LEGS LOOKED CLUBBED BUT ENDED UP JUST BEING CURVED BECAUSE OF HER POSITION. I HAVE HEARD THAT THROUGHOUT EACH PREGNANCY THE UTEROUS SEEMS TO GET STRETCHED OUT AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO CARRY FULL TERM AS THERE IS MORE ROOM FOR BABY TO GROW. I HOPE THIS IS IMFORMATIVE TO ALL OF YOU ,AND ALTHOUGH I AM A LITTLE SCARED ABOUT CONCEIVING AGAIN, IT IS ALL WORTH IT.

Bicornuate uterus

hi there,
im 34 years old and knew after an operation i had in my early teens that i had a heart shaped uterus, didn,t mean much to me then, but when i looked into it when i was pregnant with my first child 4 years ago i realised that my baby was probably going to be breach,i discussed it with my midwife who told me the baby was head down and not to worry about it,only to go into labour and then getting told the baby was in breach and i ended up havind a c-section,i am 12 weeks pregnant now and i am going to insist on having a c-section this time around, but try and not to worry too much a section will be best for you both in the long run,it will all be worth it in the end, hope all goes well.x

Bicornuate

Hi

I was told about mine on my 3rd pregnancy (the 1st and 2nd ended in miscarriage). I had to go the hospital every 2 weeks for growth scans to make sure baby had enough room. I was told that I would also have to have a c section at about 32 weeks whick I found upsetting but however while doing my weekly food shop at asda I felt sick and hot but also felt my baby completely shift not very pleasant to be honest. But had a natural birth at 39+ 2 days. So they can be wrong. Fingers crossed for you. That fact you have made this far without being scared by the staff at the hopstial is great so try to stay calm and I'm sure you will be fine. I am now pregnant again but only 7 weeks so very early days for given my history. I am booked to see a consultant from 10 weeks for regular scans at a clinic and will see very little of my midwife. Because of my misc and bicornuate uterus. Hope this helps x

Bicornuate uterus

Hi
I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with my second baby. My bicornuate uterus was only discovered during my c-section with my first baby, as was described to me as an asymmetrical heart shape. Throughout the second half of my first pregnancy, I felt that the baby was all on one side, and felt the kicks in the same place the whole way through - so I knew that something unusual was going on and perhaps he was stuck in one position, although my midwife and GP seemed totally disinterested. Being told after he was born that I had bicornuate uterus explained quite a few things: periodic bleeding during the first trimester, lop-sided big bump (although he was only 7lb 7oz), and perhaps the unsuccessful induction that resulted in the c-section. In fact, the consultants were very surprised that I'd conceived so easily and not had any miscarriages. I also had placenta accreta (where the placenta doesn't come away after birth - a condition often associated with uterine anomalies, which causes excessive blood loss).

In this pregnancy, I didn't have so much bleeding, but have alot more discomfort and once again a right-sided bump, sticking out way further than it should at this stage. I am under consultant care, and will probably have an MRI to see if I have placenta accreta again. I feel that the baby is breech, as am feeling kicks in some strange places. However, if baby is head down and I don't have placenta accreta, I will be given a trial of labour if I wish. So, decision time: elective c-section or try for natural delivery. I am worried that the unsuccessful attempt with my first baby was perhaps caused by the contractions of my strange-shaped uterus pushing my son into an awkward position, where his head got stuck and didn't put enough pressure on cervix to dilate it properly. But if the consultants think I can give it another go, I am willing, as don't fancy the c-section again if it's not necessary. But we will see.

I think that each case of bicornuate uterus is slightly different, as the resulting shape of the uterus can vary. And then the baby's position can vary according to this and perhaps the position of the placenta affects it too? So, noone can predict what will/has happened in your pregnancy, but at least the doctors were in an informed position and knew what they are dealing with. I am sure by now that your baby has arrived and hope you might get 5 mins to let me know how it all went. I remember feeling so lucky to be holding our healthy new son, just after he was born, as it seemed a small miracle he was made at all! All the best, x.

Bicornuate uterus

Hello,
I was told I had a heart shaped uterus when I was 18, and had my daughter when I was 19. Although my bump was all over, my daughter favoured the right side, with her head underneath my ribs and her feet in my lower tummy, it was uncomfortable at times, but not really painful. I was told at 26 wks that a c section might be an option if she didn't turn, but she turned and dropped at 38 wks, and I had a natural birth with no problems. My daughter was 6lbs 2, and more long than chubby, but perfectly fine. Hope this helps!

"bicornuate uterus"

Hello
Please don't worry, I have had 4 babies all born well and healthy and I have a Bicornuate uterus each one was larger than the first and I went full term and over my births were painless and short I didn't have any drugs all natural births. I did have some bleeding after the birth due to the Bicornuate Uterus though and a longer stay in hospital as the uterus doesn't go back as quick as a normal one thus a longer stay.

Hi

I carried my 1st child through what you'd call the perfect pregnancy. absolutely no problems what so ever. When i was 40 weeks pregnant we discovered that he was breech and i went stright in for a c-section. He was a healthy, normal baby boy weighing 8lbs 8oz. i discovered i was pregnant again just before christmas but i have just gone through a miscarriage. I was 10 weeks pregnant but my baby had died at 7 weeks. Upon a scan to see whether i had passed the baby or not it was discovered that the pregnancy was still in perfect tact and that i would need a uterine evacuation to clear me out. It was also discovered that i had a bicornuate uterus. Now i'm really scared for my future as i really have my heart set on 2 children, as well as grieving for my miscarriage. I'm in emotional turmoil at the minute and don't know what to do.

thanks xx

Bicornuate uterus

Im 19 and i have just found out that i also have a Bicornuate uterus. Im not exactly sure what it is, but the reason i went to the doctors in the 1st place was because my periods are different!

My doctor informed me that my periods are not iragular because of me havin a Bicornuate uterus, but if they dont stop spottin i have to go and see Gynecologist.

It all seems abit to much for me but i really want to have children and hope that this will not affect my fertilaty!!

Bicornuate uterus

I found out the i had a Bicornuate Uterus when i was 12 weeks. Thay thought it was a hart shape womb at first.
Thay told me that i would not go full term. But thay would try and get me to 30 weeks.
I went for my 25 week scan thay told me there was no hart beat as there was no room for the baby to grow. & it had no blood geting to it.
I was told i would have to give birth to my baby.
I was in hosp for 10 days & sill no baby. Thay took me down to theater & give me what thay call a parshall hysterectomy to remove the Bicornuate Uterus to my left side. So now all i have is my right tube i sill have my normal womb but it is damage.
i have been told that next time i get pregnant they will watch me more closer & that i WILL have to have a caesarean section & i WILL not go full term.
GOOD LUCK.

Heart shaped

Yes - I was diagnoised heart shaped after the removal of endometriosis 8 years ago. Once getting pregnant the doctors told me I'd have a miscarriage or a premature baby. I carried my son to 38 weeks, he weighed 7lbs 13oz. Around 30 weeks we had a level 2 sonogram (keep in mind 5 years ago 3&4D had not come out yet) to see if he would "turn" on his own. The "specialist" said there was no room and could not be done manually - I would have a c-section scheduled. At 36 weeks my son turned all on his own, head down, and was born 2 weeks later.

I am currently pregnant with my second boy - 31 weeks. My (new) doctor has said he could be breeched as that is likely with all bicorniate pregnancies, but not to be discouraged because like with my first - anything can happen. Don't be worried - either way the baby comes out will not affect your love for the baby or the baby's character, etc. You're blessed to get pregnant and go thru the pregnancy! Enjoy it.

I spent my first pregnancy completely spooked something was going to happen - and it did - I HAD A BABY! I'm enjoying this pregnancy awhole lot more!

Heart shaped uterus

Hi

I don't have this myself, but I know someone who does and they're on thier second pregnancy at the moment. I think it depends to what degree it is 'dipped', some people are affected more than others. She had one healthy baby and is 18 weeks now, she had a c section first time and will have another this time. She is at risk of preterm labour, so they keep an eye on her, but other than that she's fine. There's quite a lot on the net about it, and it's more common than people realise, so your MW and hospital should be easily able to do what's best for you. Maybe ask them whether they think the baby will be able to turn? They should really explain it all to you. It doesn't sound like they're worried though, which is a good sign! Good luck x

Good 2 know

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, its nice to hear that other people who have this have had and can have a normal pregnancy. I have looked on the net and have have a MW appointment next week so will be sure to ask lots of questions, its just nice to talk to real people about it - if you know what i mean! Makes me feel that much better.

Thanks again and take care x
