"Felt like the youngest one in the class!"

Hi there,

I am 27 years old and have just come back from my first group ante-natal parent education class and I felt like the youngest one there!

Everyone else seemed to be in their late 30's! I know I am not the youngest mum ever but I felt really young in this class. I've got all these doubts now i.e. should I have waited too, how am I going to cope, etc....

I just found it so over-whelming and I am really worrying now!

Before I became pregnant I didnt worry much but now its full time worries, tears and interrupted sleep patterns - the baby is not even here yet!

Sorry about all this - just had to let it all out!

Natalie x

"Don't worry..."

Hi, I also felt the same way as you did when I attended my prenatal classes. I had my first baby at 18 and am now having my second at 21. I'm also a full time nursing student going for my bachelor of science in nursing. So don't feel overwhelmed, because if you put your heart and soul into your child, which you will because you will love him/her so much... then you will be just fine. Age by any means does not define the type of parent you will be, as any mom having her first baby will have worries. Once you hold your baby in your arms for the first time, everything will just come naturally. Hope this helps.

I was one of the... older girls of the group instead!! i found out my new friend were all 20-22 and just 2-3of them nearly 30 of age I felt really good when I found this out and I'm glad I didn't wait.. even if it's difficult!

Hi,
Im 22 and 36+ wks pregnant with my first baby. I have recently also been to my classes and felt like the youngest one there. I really dont think your age makes any difference to how ready you are to become a parent, it all depends on the individual. I would not worry, im sure the other people in the class did not think anything bad just because you were a bit younger than them. I must admit i felt a bit uncomfortable at first but by the second class it was fine.
Try not to get stressed out, everything will be fine.

All the best x

There are probably dozens of other 20-somethings who should be at the class with you but aren't because they can't be bothered or aren't taking their pregnancy seriously. You're the one trying to do your best for baby, so stop beating yourself up over it.

I'm 27 and expecting my second in Feb (first baby is 16 months now) and I never once felt too young - it's circumstances that count, not age. Both my babies were planned, I have a good job, a stable marriage (8.5 years now) and a nice home. This is what counts, not age.

I'll be stopping after this one, and I'll be glad that I had my kids while I was young enough to enjoy them properly. My husband was 50 when our son was born, and although he couldn't be more hands on if he tried, I know he wishes he had more energy to do things with him.

It'll be great. Much love,

Gond

Thank you both for your replies.

Its hard not to worry about silly things especaily at the moment! Its good to know there are other people of my age or younger and are coping! I am just really freaked out by it all!

It is circumstances and not age that counts, wish I was more sorted out though!

Hope both of your pregnancies go well!

Best Wishes,

Just keep thinking positive. Worrying isn't good for the baby!
Best of luck.
