| Thread started by: | "Antibiotic - cefalexin" Posted by summerlee1 18 July at 17:04
Hi.
Doctor has just prescribed me CEFALEXIN for a chest infection.
I'm quite funny when it comes to taking tablets especially in pregnancy and was just wondering whether anyone else has taken this anti-biotic in pregnancy?!
Thankyou x

Hi
I've just finished a course of this antibiotic, I'm 37 weeks pregnant now with second child. Like you, I'm wary of tablets, but like somebody else said it's better to treat the infection as that is more dangerous to baby than antibiotics. With my first baby I was given course after course of antibiotics cos they kept prescribing the wrong ones for my infection, she appears fine and she's 2 in Aug. Good luck with rest of pregnancy, hope you feel better soon!

Hi there,
I am on antibiotics too, they are called Flucloxacillin.
The doctor who put me on them said they are perfectly safe, just to drink plenty of water when you are on them so they are flushed through your whole body properly.
The doctor will only put you on ones that are safe to use in pregnancy, and its often safer to be on them treating the infection then not to be!
Hope it all goes well, Best of Luck, Natalie xxx

Although i have not taken Cefalexin,i have just finished a course of Amoxicillan, for an infection in my wisdom tooth. And just like you i am very cautious about taking tablets, even more so now that i'm pregnant (21wks).But i'm sure your doctor would not have prescribed them to you if he didn't think they were suitable for you during pregnancy.I f you are really concerned then speak to your doctor again, but try not to worry.Take care.
