"When to start buying things??"

Hi everyone,

I love this site !!

When is it deemed safe/acceptable/unsuperstitious to start buying things??

Has anyone started buying stuff early or do you leave it until a couple of months before the birth? Don't mean just big things like prams etc what about bibs, clothing etc.

Hi there,

Well, I started out with such enthusiasm for looking at what we'll need for the new arrival but there is so much stuff it's a minefield.

We have already ordered the Bugaboo and car seat from Mothercare (we did that when I was about 16 weeks - I'm 25 now) but that's it.

I was saying to my dad that I wish there was a company that you could go to that sorts out everything you need so you don't really have to think about it and he said I bet if you look on the internet you'll find someone........

Lo and behold we've found a company in London that you have a 2 hour consultation with and they work out everything you need with you and have it delivered to you when you're ready. A bit like a wedding planner or a personal shopper.

What a life saver. It means that me and OH only need to spend two hours with one person who knows everything about every baby product on the market so we don't need to spend a fortune on stuff we think we'll need but won't use again.

We're going there on a Sunday at the beginning of May so I will let you know how it goes.

If anyone else is interested you should check out the testimonials on the website its babyconcierge co uk

Its really difficult to resist buying things too early. I didn't buy a thing til after I was 12 weeks just baby grows and bibs. I'm 22 weeks now and got my scan tomorrow i bought a little coat yesterday in the sales. I think we will start buying bigger things next week.

Good to hear from you. I'd wondered how you were getting on and when your scan was. Let us know how it goes.

I had a cheeky peek at baby clothes on the internet but got told off by hubby as still early days (10 weeks at moment).

Think I'll at least wait until we've announced it and I reckon we'll be given a load of stuff anyway rather than having to buy it all new. Sister-in-law recently had twins so will have lots of hand me downs

Hi

I bought one outfit after my first scan and then waited until my second before buying anything else. I'm now 24+5 and have got most of my baby's wardrobe sorted (although everything is neutral as we didn't want to know the sex). Only things I am leaving until late on are the pram and cot.

Hope this helps
