"Foods to avoid"
Posted by babygirly83 24 July  at  15:12

Hi,
Foods that you are advised not to eat in pregnancy include liver and pate, unpasteurised cheese such as brie (but it doesn't include cheeses such as cottage cheese and cheese spreads, they're fine) and things with raw eggs in such as home made mayo or chocolate mousse (shop bought are fine).
Prawns should be absolutely fine as long as you make sure they're fully cooked, same goes for other shellfish. The only fish you should avoid are swordfish, shark and marlin (yeah I know, who eats those??).
Peanuts are ok as long as you don't have any history of allergies in your family, other nuts are fine. Also try and avoid too much caffeine, don't forget that chocolate and coke contain some too. Remember to wash all your fruit and veg as well. Stick to that and you will be fine.

Good luck with your pregnancy,

Cayte xx

Hi all,

My book that I am reading says don't eat liver (I wouldn't eat that in a million years anyway ;0) but also soft cheeses but what else is a banned food if you are pregnant. Is it true that shellfish is a no no i.e. Prawns?

Any advice would be great thanks - 6.5 weeks gone already....

Thanks
Natalie ;0)
