Hi,

I am 41 and 14 weeks pregnant with my first after years of trying. 12 Week scan put me at 1 in 255 chance of a Down's baby but the blood test pushed me back to 1 in 76. Have got an Amnio test booked for week after next has any one else gone throught this as I am really nervous..

Look forward to hearing from you

K

I am 35 and had a 1/131 chance of Downs Syndrome.I had my baby 1 week ago and everything checked out fine. She is perfectly healthy. They worry you to death about advanced
maternal age. I worried my whole pregnancy because of this. I had an easy delivery and this is my first( less than 7 hours start to finish). We went home two days later and I feel
great. No tearing or cuts. I think this age thing can be a bit of bull. Good luck to you

Hi K,
I'm 38 and am having my fist baby. I had 2 miscarriages earlier this year and am hoping for third time lucky!

We are planning to have a nuchal scan to detect any chance of Down's, but we'll have to go private as they don't do them on the NHS in our area.

Not sure whether I'd have an amnio or not, just hoping the scan will give us the peace of mind we are craving!

Good Luck and keep us updated

I am 43, 23 weeks pregnant, that is my 4th child. I had an Amniosetises test, now I know, that I am going to have a girl!!! After 3 boys! I can tell you it's painful was for me, really nervous, I thought that could lose a baby... but after 1-2 days it settled down.
I know that easy to tell after the test, but before...

I am pregnant for the for what will be the 5th time but unfortuantely lost 2 of those, one of these being a m/c on Aug 4th.
We have found out on Monday that I am pregnant again! I will be 40 in a couple of weeks and at the moment feel really tired and rough!
Have all the tests to come!

Hi. I will be 40 end Oct and pregnant for first time. Got married last year and thought I had probably left it too late. Living in Belgium at the moment, so was fortunate to have the option of IVF given to me - was due to start treatment in Aug and was nicely surprised in June. 16 wks pregnant now and feeling fine. Had nuchal measurement at 12 wk scan and was told nothing to worry there, but doctor did say that she would let me know about chances of Downs after blood test analysis. Heard nothing from her , but due to see her tomorrow, so should know if amnio is recommended or not. Personally, I would rather not have one as it will not change anything.

I know everyone has said it but try not to worry at this stage.

I'm also 'older'!! Huh the cheek of it!
I had a nuchal scan yesterday, which are supposed to be accurate.
My friend had an amnio and said it was uncomfortable rather than painful, but there is a slight miscarriage risk, so ask yourself what you'd do if the test was positive? If you'd keep the baby anyway, don't put yourself through it.
1 in 76 still means 75 of those babies would be fine - so try not to worry!

Hi, I am not an 'older' mum so can't really comment on that but my cousin had the amnio done and said it was uncomfortable rather than painful and she had a bruise where the needle entered her belly for a week or so but other than that didn't seem to bother her.
Try not to worry x
"37 and my first time too."

I'm 17 weeks now and had my scan at 12 weeks too. I was automatically assessed at 1 in 198 because of my age and then that changed to my relief to 1 in 938 after the Nuchal measurement.

I know this is really worrying for you (hospitals should book women in for this type of test immediately, not for weeks later!)but try not to - as at least with the Amnio test it will give you a def yes or no.

Take care and will be thinking of you.

p.s. Hi Dawn.
"First pregnancy at 36"

Hi K

I am now nearly 26 weeks pregnant with my first - and it has not all been plain sailing. Had a few scares along the way and have been monitored quite closely due to a previous myomectomy operation 4 years ago.

Fortunately, my quadruple blood test came back very low risk at 1 in 9200 chance of Down's, so I cannot offer any advise on the amnio I'm afraid. I am sure that the test will be absolutely fine though and wish you the best of luck.

Take care
