"Bleeding at 13 weeks"

hi,

i'm 13 weeks and i started to bleed yesterday, i was at work when i felt s sudden gush, i went to the loo and had brown blood in my pants, i have had a previous miscarrigae so automatically panicked, i went to the EPU where they did another scan (my third so far) and all apperaed to be ok, the baby was kicking and moving around. the bleeding eased off yesterday but is back today, i have been told to rest for the rest of the week so no work, I have no pain at all. Has anyone else had bleeding through their pregnancy and everything thing still worked out ok? I'm trying not to worry but its so hard! The blood is brown in colour and there isn't loads, just really there when i wipe. x

Hi, With my second pregnancy (first ended in miscarriage) I had a scan at 9 weeks and the baby was fine, then had some blood at 11 1/2 weeks and went for an emergency scan (as like you having already had a miscarriage I panicked) but the baby was still fine. I also had brown blood and no pain.I now have a 21 month old little boy resulting from this pregnancy. I think some people have a tendency to bleed when they're pregnant and I've been told it may've been due to hormonal changes so try not to worry. x

Hi there

I've been bleeding on and off for a few days now. Started last friday morning when i was 8+6. went to A+E and they did bloods and checked me over and checked my cervix was closed. they did a swab which was bright red with blood and clotty and had poss tissue in it so they sent it off and i was told to go home and rest and go back monday for a scan which i did. had more bleeding on Sat so went back and was told to go home again after a check over. on Monday i had the scan which showed a lovely baby fine with a beating heart and all ok. went home so happy then when i went back to work on tues there was lots of blood which eased off and then again this morning. have another scan Monday when i will be 10+2.

I'm really scared i just don't know what is happening. the blood is red like a period but i have no pain at all. only notice it when i wipe.

My doctor has been great but i still don't have a midwife so feel kinda left in the dark really. she just said to relax and that worrying won't make it any better. its all so scary but from what i can gather its all fairly common to bleed just very very scary.

hope it gets better for you. can't wait till monday to make sure all is ok

"Bleeding at 13 weeks - cervial erosion"
Posted by tessmcd 12 September  at  23:05

I had bleeding and cramps at 12 weeks. Exactly the same - a sudden gush and then blood was brown and eased off, then only there when I wiped. This all lasted 24 hours. Immediately thought it was a miscarriage. Went to A&E who said that it was cervical erosion which is common in pregnancy and nothing to worry about. They checked my cervix was closed (Which it was) What you had sounds very similar and I hope that all has worked out for you.

Hi,

I'm currently nearly 21 weeks pregnant and have had bleeding on and off weeks 8-15 then just this last week too. I have had 6 scans in total including the 'usual' one at 12 weeks and no-one can give me any explanation for it. My whole world ends when I see blood..especially as mine IS red/fresh. Ihave found comfort in buying a doppler/heart monitor so when I get 'a bleed' I calmly lie down somewhere quiet and have a listen and so far , so good....all is still well. I don't feel I can talk to my midife sadly as she has no real advise for me and the tuth is i've rung her twice now and on neither occasion has she bothered to ring me back. The NHS in my mind are a real shower of s@@t in my area!!! It's worth spending a litle on a doppler...I listen to my lttle one nearly every day now.Try NOT to worry (easier said than done) like I said I'm nearly 21 weeks and have had this since week 8 and we are still doing ok !!
Best of luck, take care, rest when ever possible!

"I had bleeding too"

Hi Donna

I had a similar thing at 17 weeks (26 weeks now), when I discovered brown blood when I went to the loo. Went to A&E and was checked over quite thoroughly and was told that the brown blood is 'old blood' that could have been there for some time. I did have a slightly inflammed cervix which probably accounted for the blood, but I just think they were being exta careful as wanted to make sure it wasn't due to scars rupturing on my uterus following a previous myomectomy op 4 years ago. The baby was absolutely fine (I had another scan) and was quite happy jumping and jiggling about.

I was told to rest so just do what you're doing and keep an eye on it. If it does change colour or becomes heavy, just get in contact with your midwife or delivery unit at the hospital.

Take care

Dawn x

Hi Donna, i too have been getting bleeding, iam almost 9 weeks, like u the scan shows all is ok. I have had 4 scans. This also happened with my first pregnancy and all was fine with my daughter. I think its quite common for this to happen, its just a worry when it does. If your not having pains with the beeding and it is not bright red, dont worry. If u get lower back pain with any bleeding this could be a sign of a water infection.

Hi Donna,
I have been having the same - brown bleeding and discharge on and off since 6w4d (I'm now 10 weeks). I had a scan which showed an area of blood in my uterus (they called it a subchorionic hematoma) and said that this is most likely what was causing the bleeding.

I've since been back for two more scans, both of which showed the area of bleed was getting smaller. But I just wanted to say that I too have been told that bleeding is quite common (apparently 1 in 10 have it) and only to worry if it increases significantly in amount, or becomes bright red and is accompanied by pains.

Hope this helps,
Melanie
