"Heya" Posted by leitia80 22 September at 11:55
Ive got my 20 week scan on the 1st october (2 days before my birthday)and as long as the little one cooperates we will find out, we already have 1 girl and 2 boys so another girl to even things out would be really nice, but either way as long as baby is healthy im happy.
We are hoping to find out for more practical reasons, we dont have much money as we are on sickness benefits and my big sister had a baby girl in march and my best friend had a boy in January and they have saved all their baby bits for us, the thing is is that they both live quite far away from us so as soon as we know what we are having, we can arrange for the necessary one to bring down the stuff they have for us...if that makes sense.
It will also give our other 3 time to get used to the fact they will have either a new brother or sister.

"Purpose of scan" Posted by coccyx 21 September at 20:12
THOUGHT THE DETAILED SCAN AT 21 WEEKS WAS TO CHECK SPINE, INTERNAL ORGANS ETC, NOT TO FIND OUT THE SEX. sORRY FOR CAPITALS. OOOPS

"My first post, im new!!" Posted by shelley44 18 September at 02:52
hey, i can relate to wanting to find out. i am having my fourth baby and i am only 31. my hubby and i have 3 boys, i have desperately wanted a girl from the beginning. i have a slight feeling this one actually may be a girl, if i am lucky. i have done so many quizzes and ring tests, you name it i have done it, but i reckon you should give this a try k. it is spose to be pretty reliable, i found it on the net and have asked heaps of othere people to do it, proving right for them too, it is pretty freaky. you hold a ring on a strand of hair over your left wrist, it will start to do circles while the ring is 'thinking' then it will move either across your wrist(boy) or down your wrist(girl) like in the direction of your elbow or fingertips and then it will circle again and then stop moving alltogether. if this is your first child it should do it for the sex you are carrying and then tell you any onthers you are to have... let me know how you go k...

"Oh my god i love it!!" Posted by sarahjp1 21 September at 19:38
Hi Shelly, Well I just did your ring test and I love it how freaky it did exactly what you said and it said I'm having a girl really really hope its right.. I tried it on my husband cos he said I was crazy doing it and the ring didn't even move spooky. I have a friend who is 26 weeks and she knows shes having a girl so I'm going to get her to do it love anything like that! As for finding out at our 20 week scan I change my mind every day! Sarah x x

"We didn't!" Posted by ellie223 15 September at 11:22
Hi
At first we were definately going to find out the sex and then a friend of a friend had a still birth at 7 months...they'd got a name and just bought everything for her a couple of days before she died. It was such a shock, we'd just had our 12 week scan and felt sooo relieved that everything was ok with our baby and then found that out. It is a very personal decision and I still regret not asking now but I am so grateful that everything seems to be going smoothly. It is sooo hard to not ask though!
Good Luck! Ellie x

"We did" Posted by freddie53 18 September at 13:48
I was unsure and husband wanted to find out. I was convinced we were having a boy but we are having a girl. I am now glad we did find out as I was achully a bit disapointed - not sure why and I have the rest of the pregnacy to think about her rather than him. We have keeped it a secret so only us know so it will be a surprise to all the relatives!

"We did!" Posted by staceymy 14 September at 20:08
hi there. my partner didnt want to find out the sex right at the begining but i got him to change his mind. on the day of my scan i wasent sure cos i thought it would spoil the excitement. anyway 2mins before the scan we decided to. bump was being really good and still for all the measurements etc until it came to finding out the sex. the sonographer said she was only 70% sure bumps a girl! i knew she would try covering herself up!
its up to you if you find out the sex and i dont think it spoils the excitement.
good luck with your scan

"Hi" Posted by laurat21 14 September at 17:27
Well ive got my 20 week scan on Monday, and we are adamant we want to find out. I know what u mean tho, alot of people have sounded abit surprised on the fact that we want to know! But at the end of the day its about personal preference.
I think you can bond alot more with bump, when you know, names etc. Also i think its easier not just sticking to buying whites and lemons!
Im really not sure what we'll have, but we both cum from a large family of girls, with my partner being a 'one off'! Have you got any feelings what you'll have?
Laura

"We couldnt wait at all" Posted by tryinghard83 14 September at 17:11
Hiya
This is my first baby and there was no doubt we wanted to know what we were having, but we have friends who are 3 weeks ahead of us and were just as adamant they didnt want to know. It's all about personal choice. But we found that for us we've been able to get a load of stuff for the lil fella and since we know what we're having he's now got a name and we feel totally bonded with him as a little person in his own right...
So I am totally for finding out... I think i'd always want to now!
Good luck for when you find out and let us all know how it went!!

"Didnt find out the 1st time - did the 2nd!" Posted by summerlee1 14 September at 16:36
Hi,
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I had a son nearly 12 yesrs ago and didnt find out what i was having at that time and it was a lovely surprise - like being a kid on christmas morning but i'm expecting now ( was due on the 9th ) and we have found out this time that we're expecting a girl.
It is lovely waiting for a surprise but i've found this time finding out we're having a girl has made us all bond strongly before she's even arrived as we call her by her name etc....and it's still going to be a surprise to see what she'll look like when she finally does arrive! Which should be any day now!!!!
Good luck to you x

"Hard choice" Posted by leighannex2 14 September at 16:20
i was set on finding out the sex but when my 20 week scan came i more didnt want to know, purely because am due on 27th december i thought be lovely surprize for not just me and my bfs but all our family memebers. So we've decided to not find out, i am totally curious though. If i wanted to find out i wouldnt have found out at my 20 week scan as he/she was in the wrong position. lol

"We want the surprise" Posted by deena15 14 September at 16:15
We've said we don't want to know. Want to hear the midwife say 'It's a .....'
Mind you will probably be totally different when they ask us at the scan. Really gonna try and hold back ! Majority of people reckon I'm carrying a girl anyway due to being all 'upfront'.

"So confused!" Posted by newbie16 22 September at 11:22
We're so confused about finding out! In a way I want to but we wouldn't tell anyone else! I think labour is bad enough for some people that it's an added surprise at the end! That should be worth waiting for!! x x
