"When to start the nursery?"

Hi ladies

Hope your al well.

Just wondered how far people are/were when you started to decorate the nursery? We've just found out we're having a boy and am now 21 weeks. Is it safe to paint it baby blue, or should i stick to neutral?

Any other design tips would be great.

Laura

Thanks for advice all.

Think im gona go with neutral at top, and blue at botton on walls with some sort of border. May start the painting in few weeks then just gradually but bits so that its not one huge expense. But i suppose there's no rush really as baby will be in our room for a while anyway, but like the idea of having it done.

Thanks again

"Nursery"

our spare room is painted rose white as is the whole bungalow and the same pinky/beige carpet runs throughout the bungalow. we will not be painting the nursery or changing the carpet as we only moved in 12 months ago and did it all then. the nursery will also have my four book cases in it as there is nowhere else for them to go.

I shall be putting up some eeyore pics and rugs and things, have lots of eeyore toys as i am eeyore mad, but will not be turning the room into a proper nursery as dont see the point or have the money to spend!. we will be converting the garage in around 18 months and when that becomes our spare room, we will be able to decorate the childs bedroom then into something appropriate.

my partner decorated bumps room and laid a new carpet when i was 21wks. in books it tells you that you should do it a least 3months before baby is born cos of the fumes from the paint. i already bought the furniture at 16wks! so we put it all up. now we are just adding to tht room week by week.

we found out that we are having a girl but we have kept the walls and carpet cream. we are just going to put a pink border and bedding in.

my partner had the strop on cos the cots already up and he said it was too early lol! he has finally got over it now!

its nice tho to go sit in the room and i always catch my partner looking in on a morning! lol!

take care

I've got a long way to go yet but I have told my boyfriens that after the 12wk mark I want to start our nursery so it ownt be a rush. Maybe you could decorate in 2 colours, blue down the bottom with a neutral top half with a baby boy border?!

I already know how I want our nursery its just a case of waiting until the 12wk hurdle!

Take care

Hi Laura

As soon as I found out we were having a girl, I wanted to decorate and sort out the nursery straight away, but decided I would buy the nursery furniture first and decorate accordingly. I'm now 28 weeks and my husband has just finished decorating the nursery (it was already decorated recently when we moved here but hubby wanted to make sure it was perfect!). He's a painter and decorator by the way and the room looks stunning. We decided to stick to very pale walls and I've bought pink and white nursery furniture with pink accessories so it looks great.

I think it's a good idea to paint the walls in a neutral colour and then you can accessorise the room with blue accessories - borders, cot bedding, a rug and bits and pieces etc to really put your stamp on it.

Very best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Take care

I am 23 weeks and appart from buying the cot we have done hardly anything. The nursary is pale green and as only painted a year ago is going to saty like that. Off to Ikea this weekend to look at storage etc. I also need to get some curtain material for my mum to make the curtains and that will be aboout it. The baby will be in our room for the first few months so don't feel any rush to get madly organised.
