Im 21, 5ft 4 and weigh nearly 18 stone, just found out Im 7 weeks pregnant. Thing is Im so scared because Im overweight, I don't want to lose my baby, I just don't know how to stop over - worrying anyone else in this situation.

I heard weight can be a big factor in miscarring. I want this baby so much, I don't smoke or drink (never have really) its just my weight.

PLease help! Im so scared.

The story below is copied from Bounty.com, just to reassure you that everything can be ok:

(copied from Bounty.com)
Hi ladies, thought i would tell my story, and hopfully it will put some of your minds at rest!!

I had my baby weeks ago, and i am very over weight, i weighed 135kg pre-regnancy and gained 20kg, so was 155kg before birth.

i dide't have any problems, in my pregancy, i had the gtt test, which came back negative, i had slightly raised bp towards the end of pregnany, but it was never a big problem, i was just monitored twice a week, instead of once.

My waters broke 9 days before my due date, and i was having irregular contractions for 2 days, so diden't sleep, i then went into be induced after 48 hours, and as soon as i arrived at the hospital my contractions really kicked in and i was checked at 10pm and i was 5cm dilated, and by 11pm i was 8cm, and then i stayed like that for hours.

I had diamorphine and gas and air, and i wont lie, labour really does hurt, but then you cant expect anything else unfortunatly.

I finally gave birth at 0710 the following day, to a very healthy baby girl 8lb2oz

And i can honestly say its well worth it, and my weight diden't cause me any problems in pregancy or birth.

I think as long as you try to stay healthy and try not to gain to much pregancy weight, you will be just fine.

Problems in pregancy and birth happen to many ladies, and i dont think weight is the reason tbh.

Hope you don't mind me asking - were your cycles regular before you conceived, and how long were you trying for.

I am trying to conceive at the moment and weigh the same as you but am 5ft 7. I came off the pill (after being on it for nearly 10 years) in May and have had 3 cycles since - one was 57 days, one was 55 and the last one was 35. I am currently on day 29 of my cycle and am praying that this month is the one!!!

I was testing for polycystic ovaries in my teens and did not have it, but I don't know whether this can develop through life?

Any advice would be great.

I feel a little better. I lost a stone just before I got pregnant and it has made a difference to my health. At least my blood pressure is ok, one good thing I suppose. Im really excited and I am trying to eat healthier not eating any samosas (love them so much), and Im eating more fruit.
Thanks everyone.

"Congratulations"

Well first of all congratulations... and stop worrying this is a happy time.

But if you feel like this then use this pregnancy as the perfect excuse to start doing some gentle excersize like walking and eating some healthy meals.

I'm not saying go mad and be extreme cos that is harmful to your baby, but you will not only benefit physically from this but also mentally knowing that you are doing everything you can to stay healthy for your baby.

Hi there. I am 35, 5'3" and weigh 135kg, which is around 21 stone. I am not proud of this, but 5 years ago, I was around 17 stone, then I went on the depo provera injection and put on another 4 stone. Having recurrent cellulitis attacks did not help as I was immobilised for a while. Anyway, enough of the excuses!

I am 15 + 5 with my first. I have had my first scan, which was not a problem and I have actually lost 3kg, due to being quite sick with morning sickness.

I have to have consultant led care due to my size, which can only be good as it means I will get the best attention. Since being pregnant, my blood pressure has gone down and I do not have any problems to worry about at the moment.

Please try not to worry, I know its easy to say, I am worrying about the birth already!! and thats a long way off.

Please keep in touch, as I have been looking for somebody in a similar situation to compare notes with.

All the best.
Karen
