Hi all, went for an early scan today as i had a mc a few months back and have been getting pains.

All that could be seen on the scan was the 'sac'...no baby! I was also told that i have a cyst on my left ovary.

They have made me another appointment in 10 days to see if the baby is developing.

has anyone else had this? i am so scared of loosing my baby again. and these 10 days are going to be the longest of my life!

thanks

kate xx

Hi Katie,

I went got my scan on Thursday 27th Sept (8 Weeks), and was told that they could see two sacs (16mm in size) but they where worried that the pregnancy is not developing as could not see any yolk, embryo(Baby). My doctor had asked me to come back on 13th October, 16 days later. My husband and I are finding it really difficult to deal with the not knowing so I contacted doctor today and explained how upset I was and we are hopefully having another scan on Wednesday 3rd October.

It is the not knowing that is the hardest and I really hope that we both will be Ok.

I am preparing myself for the worst as my doctor didn't seem very positive.

Fingers crossed you will have a good result at your next scan. Take care.

Contact me anytime you want a chat.

I noticed you said you might be having a scan today? Have you found out any more? Been thinking of you - hope all is well.

Same to you Katie - try to keep your chin up. Thinks we are at pretty much the same stage of pregnancy - hope so much we can share the rest of the journey - keep us posted.

hi, it is really difficult not knowing. if there is 2 sacs, does that mean you are expecting twins? sorry i dont know much about this!!! i know its a long wait but as the doctor said to me, it needs to be a long ish wait as the longer it is the more they can see. are your dates deffinatly right? have they confirmed them?

im sure everything will be fine for you.

good luck and let us know how you get on

I don't know much either this is my first pregnancy. Two sacs probably means twins, they run in my family. The size of my sac puts me at roughly 7 weeks and the doctor would have liked to seen an embryo to confirm everything.

I am hoping that the scan can happend on Wednesday, I knows it only been 6 days but my husband and I are going away for the weekend to see a concert and we would really like to know, so we can either celebrate or drown our sorrows.

I really hope it is celebrate.

Good luck with everything and I will let you know how I get on.

Hi Kate,
sorry if this is long but just wanted to tell you my story...

I went for an early scan as I have had 2 m/cs this year. I thought I was 7 weeks when I went for the scan but all she could see was a 14mm sac which meant I was about 6 and a half weeks. There was no yolk sac, no fetal pole (baby) and no heartbeat. I had to go back 7 days later but basically was given the impression I should prepare myself for the worst.

I went for the follow up scan last Wednesday and there was a gestational sac, and with in it a yolk sac, a 6mm fetal pole and a strong flickering heartbeat. It was amazing! Even the sonographer was surprised! However, she told me that I was only 6 weeks and 3 days at the time of the second scan, based on the size of the baby.

The week's wait was a nightmare, but please don't give up hope, 10 days will make all the difference.

Also, don't be surprised if you are not as many weeks as you thought you were - I was out by nearly 2 weeks!

Anyway, sincere good luck to you and feel free to PM me if the stress of waiting gets too much and you want to have a rant at someone!

thank you so much! i feel a bit more positive now. i think it may have just been to early to see anything. the doctor worked out that i am just over 6 weeks but today, she said that i am no more than 5, judging by the size of the sac.
i am just worried about the cyst as well? i have done a bit of reading and some sites say this is normal during early pregnancy.

im sure i am just worrying over nothing but its the waiting that kills me!!! im such an impatient person as well!

thank you so much though, it is so good to talk to someone who has experienced this

"Cysts"
Posted by tray8 1 October  at  18:49

Hello,

Just wanted to tell you about cysts, I have already had 3 scans and im 11 weeks on Wednesday, I went in for a routine scan to check for endo on the 31st Aug and found I was 5 or so weeks pregnant and i had a cyst the size of a small apple on each ovary, also i suffered immense pain in the hospital and collapsed as they think a 3rd bigger cyst had burst.

I have since had 2 further scans, the cyst on the left ovary has gone now, but the one on the right is still at large and slowly growing. The last scan i had last week when i was 9+4 showed cleary a baby shape with heaartbeat and wiggling about.

I have been told and also read to back it up that all pregnant women have a cyst, its called a Corpus Leutumn cyst and actually supports the preganncy, without this cyst the pregnancy will fail, i think this is the cause of some m/c . The reason most pepople dont know they have the cyst is due to it dissapearing at 12 weeks, this is when the placenta takes over. So most women have a scan at 12 weeks and the cysts has shrunk or gone.

in cases like mine, which is common, the cyst gets bigger, i have to wait until my 12 week scan to see what its doing, if it continues to grow the hospital will keep checks on it, the cyst can co-exixt with pregnancy, its only if it gets too big it can take up too much room when the baby needs it to grow. They can operate to take it out, or some places wait til the birth and do a c-section so they take it all out in one go!!

read up on the cyst, it wont harm the pregnancy yet, its actually supporting it, and 90% of them shrink at 12 weeks anyway.
hope ive helped

thank you so much for that info! it has really really put my mind at rest and has made things a lot clearer. did you have a scan at 6 weeks? as i will be having one in 10 days and was just wondering if the baby shows up then?

do you have pains with your cysts? i have had an awful pain on my left side for a while, and today she confirmed that the cyst is on the left side!

thanks again!

take care xxx
"I had"
Posted by tray8 1 October  at  23:22

my first scan was at 4 and half to 5 weeks and could see a dark shape/shadow, then at 7+4 i had another, this is when we discovered the left cyst had gone, i saw a little bean and a quick fluttering of the heartbeat, then at 9wks+4 the bean had doubled in size and could easily make out a baby and had heartbeat and was wiggling.

my cyst is 4cm, they are only worried if it gets to 7cm or more, it has grown by a few mm each week so if it does grow hopefully it will be very very slow and the baby will be ok. I do worry though, i worry that it will burst before i reach 12 weeks and then lose it. But hopefully it wont, this isnt common.

as for Cramping, I had cramping from the day i ovulated until about 2 weeks ago. mainly on the right which is where the cyst is. I still get the odd bit of cramping now. I thought i was getting my AF so took loads of painkillers before i found out, so feel very guilty about that. I get little stabby pains on my right ovary now, they are mild but i think its where the cyst is growing.

The way i see it is, as long as i get to 12/13weeks when the placenta can take over then i will put up with it, after that i dont care what happens to the cyst, whether it bursts or it needs to be removed!

the cysts can leak and as my one burst the doc thinks the cramping was due to the extra fluid they saw in the womb early on, now thats got better the cramping has eased off. you may well could have had smaller cysts that have gone and get absorbed by the body but cause cramping due to the extra fluid.

anyway, im going to stop rabbiting on,
hope i have helped again
good luck
xx
