"Anyone taken valoid tablets (cyclizine) for morning sickness?"
Posted by sharonmanchester 4 October  at  13:22

Hi There Ladies,

I'm fairly new to this forum, I've mainly been on the ttc and miscarriage ones in the past.
However, I am now lucky enough to be 7wks+4 pregnant and having horrendous morning (afternoon, evening and nightime!) sickness. I have seen my GP today who has prescribed cyclizine tablets (also known as Valoid) and said they are thought to be fairly safe in pregnancy.

After 2 miscarriages earlier this year I am keen to avoid even the tiniest risk but I am so constantly nauseous that I can hardly eat, so have resigned myself to the fact I have to take them.

Has anyone else taken these in pregnancy and everything turned out ok? Also - did they actually work for you?

Many Thanks
S

Hi there,

I too suffered morning sickness and was given promethazine/phenergan. This has been around for a long time and has long past guinea pig stages so that was good enough for me.
Its just a travel sickness tablet but it actually helped take the edge off the sickness, although you may feel a little tired and groggy (how you feel when taking travel sickness tablets)but it seemed to help me sleep as well (its difficult to drop off to sleep when you feel sick so they were brilliant for that)
I still have some now (just in case) as i hate feeling really sick (dont we all!)

Take care and don't worry about taking something which is well used :+)

Hi,

I have suffered really badly with all day sickness for 8 weeks now (i am 13 weeks expecting ID twins). I suffered for nearly 7 weeks to eventually having to drag myself to the Dr's to get some advice (as i hadn't eaten for 3 days and feeling really weak). He gave me the same medication and although it helped for a few days, i started to feel awful after that. I was really drowsy and it made me feel really sick for a few hours after taking them. I suppose it works for some people, and i did look it up and quite happy that its fairly safe in pregnancy.

In the end i weighed up the greater risk.....being sick and weak can be also bad for the pregnancy, so in the end i gave in. I really hope you feel better soon, i can really sympathise.

Good Luck

Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy. Im 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant I have all day sickness and I have been prescribed buccastem 3mg, Im refusing to take them as they cause drowsiness and Im shattered as it is. If you are unsure don't take them, but I don't think the doctor would give you anything dangerous. Toni xxxxxx

Take care
