Hi all

I am 8 weeks and have a golden retriever, he has always been affectionate and very much a mummies boy but these last few weeks he is with me wherever I go - when the morning sickness takes hold he sits outside the bathroon waiting for me and on an evening he sits on the floor by my feet (he normally would lie in his bed which is much more comfy for a stiff old dog than the floor!) - following me everytime I leave the room. He obviously knows there is something different about me - and he must be happy about it or he wouldn't be so overly affectionate of late - but how do they know?

I have seen posts that peoples cats are picking up on pregnancy but would like to know if anyone else has a dog thats sussed it out too?

"Phantom pregnacy..."

My 12 month old dog is currently having a phantom pregnacy, its so sweet! Vet said its normal! Bless. Also, when i first found out i was expecting, she would follow me around where ever i went. Almost as if she knew, and she was looking after us!
Dogs are clever.

Hi,

I have a 2 year old labrador and he definately knows something. I suffered from really bad sickness for about 10 weeks and he did the same. He has been so affectionate, and when he cuddles me, he seems to be less boisterous, like he doesn't want to hurt me.

Its so cute, i think they just get a vibe.

my mums dog always has fantom pegnancys when im pregnant, the vet said its normal for dogs to pick up on it and that they want to protect you, but my mums dog has hormonal problems and always thinks shes pregnant so i have to stay away or it costs a fortune in vets bills.

someone posted on the cats 1 i think it was that a vet had told them that cats and dogs do sense these things, something do with them can hear baby heartbeat or something like that.

"I have a golden retriever too..."

Hi there,

I'll be honest...I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and have a Golden Retriever who is 5 & 1/2.
She appears to have sensed NOTHING so far.
I've had to stop her sleeping in our room which we are both sad about but I couldn't risk her being in the same room as baby when we are asleep!
All animals, just like humans have their own personalities and i'm sure other's may sense things, mine however is just dippy but absolutely adorable, she'll always be my favourite 4 legged baby girl!!!

All the best

Ruth

I stopped Josh sleeping in our room recently too - he was getting too stiff to cope with the stairs - good timing though as like you I would of evicted him for other reasons. He is a really sensitive soul, gets upset of your upset and gets so excited with my boyfriend when he watches the rugby on TV. Maybe its my mood change he is picking up rather than anything else?!?

who knows but I am enjoying his extra soppy side

take care

i have 2 west highland terriers age 3 and 4. they are both very affectionate little dogs that follow you about and sit next to the bath when you are in tehre etc. however, since i have been pregnant, the youngest one has turned even more into my shadow. i really cant do anything without her following me etc. its really cute!

i did ask my vet about it when i took her in for her routine injectinos and he said it can be down to your change in hormone levels and they can smell it!
