I just wanted to say im 6 months pregnant and i currently weigh 19 stone! I have normal blood pressure & i am eating healthily.Too many people assume big women cant have babies or are selfish as it could cause problems for the baby...its a load of rubbish unless the woman suffers high blood pressure or gestational diabeties.I aim to lose the weight afterwards as i wouldnt dream of dieting whilst pregnant but many people would ask why i didnt lose the weight before hand? well i have spent my life rather on the big side and find it hard to lose weight and when i do it seems to creep back on!Ive had tests for over active thyroid etc and i dont have diabeties so the docs really dont know why im so big as i eat healthily but maybe could exercise more.I just want people to realise not all overweight women cause problems for their babies and we certainly dont cost the NHS more money as is being said on certain websites...it makes me angry as hell.Good luck to all with their pregnancies!

Hiya all.

I found out i was pregnant 5 weeks ago. Ive been on many a sites to work out how far gone i am and im inbetween 10-11 weeks i think, according to midwife its 10 and the internet its 11! Highly confusing!

Anyway, I had my booking appointment with midwife on the 16th of this month, and as i was complaining of bad crap she sent me to the EPAU they give me an internal and i had a scan a few days later, At the scan they couldnt find the baby, only the pregnancy sac. The sonographer and midwifes were really not helpfull and didnt explain much too me just wrote it in my ante natal book. They mentioned something about the scan being difficult due to adipost. Ive since found out this could be fatty tissue. Ive got another scan on the 3rd of nov, but im really worried as to why if im this far gone they couldnt see the babys heartbeat.

Id love to chat to some other overweight women that are in there early stages of pregnancy and find out how there getting on.

Sorry for rambling on and hope some of you get in touch! By the way, im very overweight (110kg/17st)

Please get in touch
Mikayla

hello,

i'm overweight like you and even if I didn't have problems with the scans (had the first one at 7+3) few weeks ago when I went to the hospital due to a bit of bleeding they tried to hear the heartbeat of the baby (it was Sunday so the department where they give u a scan was closed!) and the midwife tried several times without hearing anything, my heartbeat was there but the baby one was not...
I was totally in panic and already thinking the worse...they gave me a scan two days after (very long days for me) and the baby is fine...I find it a bit rude they blame your weight for a bad scan....if you want to talk i'm here.

hi im jo. im 8/9 weeks pregnant and had my booking in with midwife yesterday. came away feeling very despondant. i am being referred to a consultant because of being over weight. i came away feeling fed up and felt worse after reading all the leaflets. especially after reading up on the scan and it saying they may not get a good picture if ur overweight. my first scan is booked for 4 wks time and im feeling really nervous that they wont see anything. after reading ur message i feel even more nervous now.
"Dont worry"

i found out i was pregnant after 3 weeks of concieving and had a bit of a bleed at 6 weeks so went for a scan i had an internal because i am quite over weight and would have been very difficult to get a decent scan. lucky i was fine and at the 12 week scan i could have a normal scan and all was ok. i was given a little advice and told to drink loads of water before my scan to get a clear picture and it worked. i was booked into my next scan at 19 weeks but the midwife then changed it to 21 weeks because i am over weight and as she put it there was more padding to see through. so if you are worried ask for a scan at 21 or 22 weeks insted. but remember DRINK AT LEAST 3 PINTS OF WATER AND DONT WORRY. good luck and let me know how it goes. stephxxx

hi mikayla. gl wi your pregnancy. i was rather overweight before i fell pregnant with my first. i had no probs wi my scan but i wasnt scanned till i was 12 weeks. if its any consolation about some of your replies!! i ate healthy when i was pregnant and when i had my baby i lost 3 and a half stone of my ORIGINAL weight so i dont know how much i lost in total. unfortunately with my second i've managed to put most of it back on and i cant get it shifted(hes 6 months now). i have a feeling i'm pregnant again so we'll see how this one goes. let us know how your other scan went. tc x
"So what did the scan say?"
Posted by twilightsky 6 November  at  11:51

hmmm
its true, that its more of a difficulty to conceive if you're overweight, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here.
you must have had your scan by now. How did it go? I really do hope that everythings ok.
I've had three children plus two miscarriages, so I suppose i can speak of just a little experience I know that being a bit more cuddly than others can cause problem during the pregnancy, but i've never actually heard of it causing problems to scan. I presume there was another reason for them not finding the embryo at your last scan.
I'm not overweight and I'm not pregnant, but i do know that it can be a help to just talk sometimes.
Take good care of yourself

"Your lucky"

You are very lucky to have got pregnant being so big! But i hope you have now taken the oppotunity to loose weight for the sake of your child. Remember that you dont need to over eat just because you are expecting.

"So nervous"
Posted by stewycaz 19 June  at  22:01

i'm about to have my first scan tomorrow and i'm so nervous. I'm overweight and was in the process of going to the gym and losing weight, then i find out i'm pregnant. i'm lucky as at the moment i'm okay with high BP, but it's still early days, but people saying that it's dangerous etc don't really help. Being pregnant isn't the easiest thing in the world whether you are overweight or not. two of my friends have both had children, are not overweight and have found being pregnant one of the hardest things in the world. i'm determined to eat as well as I can, and still go to the gym, even if it's for half an hour walk - better than sitting at home doing nothing for 9 months!
but reading your message makes me happy that there are people in the same situation as me. Congratulations on the baby, and I hope your pregnancy goes really smoothly!
"Don,t be nervous"
Posted by kitkat199 30 July  at  15:53

by now you,ve probably had your scan hope everything went well for you,i was the same ,worried that they would say the same to me, i lost two stone to get preggers.i am now 25 weeks.I was fretting about high bp putting on too much weight looking at everyone else. The truth is we are all different no 2 pregnancies are the same i had all my bloods taken at 20wks no problems i don,t have high bp,i have only put on 8.5 pounds so far and i haven,t been exactly good in that department.i,m lucky so far so good.
All i can say is just cause we,re overweight does,nt mean to say we can,t have a great 9 months just like some of the skinny minnies out there
"...not the best time"
Posted by ceciliah2 15 November  at  15:51

Now is not the best time to go on a diet. Are you mad? Its a no brainer you're gonna gain weight. If someone is overweight then they are just supposed to gain less weight then someone who is of average weight or skinny.

I'm overweight and I just got pregnant. I wish I had lost more weight beforehand - but now weight is the last thing on my mind. I'm more concerned about eating healthy - and lots of nutrients so that my baby gets all it needs to be healthy. I'll worry about losing my extra weight AFTER the baby is born.

Posted by lornap 6 November  at  10:44

i agree she didnt offer any good advice what was the point in replying, glad to see other people on here who are not just skinny, i am trying for a baby with my fiance i am also overweight by a few stone, it doesnt necessarily mean i am unhealthy and yes i wish i could lose some weight before i conceive but its not the end of the world i will stick to a healthy diet if i conceive (i am trying to eat healthily now too )
"Sorry..."
