"32 week scan for low lying placenta"
Posted by louise907 29 November  at  14:16

Hi

I have got a scan in a couple of weeks as at my 20 week scan they noticed that the placenta was lying low.

Just wondering if it hasnt moved do they scan you again after 32 weeks to see if it does eventually move or if it hasnt moved by now will be definately be a c section? Have any of you expereinced this?

My midwife is very wooly and keeps saying not to worry until the scan but id rather know now.

Thanks

Louise (30+5)

i had the same problem at 20 weeks but after speaking to my midwife, i was told that 1 in 3 women will have this problem and as the baby takes up more room it will push the placenta upwards and in 4 out of 5 cases of this the placenta will have moved by 36 weeks, its a common problem and nothing to worry about, i went for my 36 week scan to check it had moved and it had and so no further problems.

good luck!

I'm 32 weeks and at 20 weeks i also had a low lying placenta. My scan is on 14the December. i just can't wait to know if it has moved up.
I had a tough time when i had my daughter so some people have said maybe it would be better this time to just opt for a c-section, but i still want things to be as natural as possible.

Hi Louise

I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks, I think it's quite common. I had a scan at 32 weeks and it had moved so I'm set for a home birth now. however, if it hadnt moved, I think they would have monitored it and given me another scan at 38 weeks to check and then book a c section. I was really worried like you too, I'm sure it will have moved for you.
Good luck

I was also told at my 20 week scan that my placenta was low and I was booked another scan at 34 weeks to check if it had gone up!

Unfortunately it was still low and they told me to come back at 36 weeks to do another scan and that if my placenta was still know, I would have to have a cesarian.

I was very worried on those 2 weeks but yesterday I did my 36 week scan and everything was ok: my placenta had gone up and the baby is head down, so I can have a natural birth!!

So don't worry and best of luck!
