"Christmas food and drink"
Posted by ruthy123 30 November  at  14:14

I love Christmas for various reasons but I adore Christmas dinner and drinks.

Are you ladies going to miss out on a prawn cocktail or pate starter?
Or are you/will you be diving in just for one day?

What about the cheese and biscuits, ie Stilton or Brie? I do like my port on Christmas day with my strong smelly cheese!

What about the Christmas nibbles, I love my peanuts and there is no history of any allergies so can I enjoy a handful at Chrimbo?

Will you have a glass of wine or a small glass of something else?

Just intrigued to know everyone's views, I will be 36 weeks pregnant at Christmas and want to have a couple of treats but what do you think???

Thanks

Ruth

I will be 37 weeks and to be honest with the little space I have for food not really looking forward to dinner.

I will have a glass of champers and some smoked salmon for breaky if I can! Yummy.
"Nuts"
Posted by katgillett 5 December  at  17:30

There has been new research done on peanuts and the experts are now saying that they think they have gotten it completely wrong! Instead of avoiding peanuts during pregnacy we should be eating loads of them! Apparently it is having trace amounts of them in our diet that can bring on allergies and since practically all foods have had some contact with nuts (in the factory) then by not actually eating the nuts we are getting trace amounts. In cultures where nuts are a huge part of their diet they have much smaller numbers of allergies therefore the experts now think that as long as we eat lots of them then baby shouldn't get allergies from the nuts, its only if we have trace amounts!

I had been so good for 7 months not having any even though I was craving peanut butter, but since this new research and talking to my MW have been eating them all the time and really enjoying my peanut butter sandwiches!

So definately go for the nuts!

I've already decided that I will have just one prawn cocktail and I will have a glass of wine christmas day and one again new years eve but other than that it is non alcoholic drinks!!

I'll be steering clear of blue cheeses but have no worries about peanuts as no histoy of allergies.

I'll be 23wks come christmas and I'm not worried about the odd treat.

Take care

"I will be enjoying myself!"

I 'll be 29 wks on xmas eve and think its possible to have a good time but not feel deprived. It will be hard not being able to have a good drink but i will prob be having a little champagne and have discovered some alcohol free wines at tescos, yippee(its like a dream coem true!) so will be stocking up on those!I adore all cheeses except the runny ones, stilton brie, etc. so that's perfect for me! I will be missing pate though, last year got some gorgeous garlic pate from the deli at Sainsburys but will have to give that a miss this year. Don't eat prawns or other shellfish etc. anyway. & i'll be having lots of veg to make up for all that xmas pudding i'll be munching-minus the brandy sauce mind!! x

I will be 38 weeks on Christmas day, and I've been thinking for some time about what i'm gonna eat that day.
Well, first thing is I can't eat big meals anymore anyway because baby is just too big already and I tend to eat little and often now, so I can't see myself gulping down a big Christmas dinner.
Having said that I do love my food and drinks at Christmas and I know I'm gonna miss the nice foie gras (sorry for those of you who can't face the idea of Foie gras... I'm French, and Christmas without Foie gras is not Christmas for me !!!), and the sweet wine going with it. But I've been so careful for the past eight months that I just think I can give it a miss this year and it's not gonna kill me. I just cannot bring myself to drink any alcohol while pregnant, not even the smallest glass of wine you could think of, I just can't, I'm terrified it could harm my baby, which is probably rather irrationnal but hey, what can I do .
So sometimes, I think it would be nice if baby decided to arrive early so that I could selfishly have some nice food and wine at Christmas, but I don't think this will happen, so I suppose I'll just indulge on a few nice food just after birth to celebrate, before starting to think about loosing weight and fit in those pre-pregnancy jeans again
Have a lovely Christmas anyway, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy,
Flo & 34 + 6 boy bump.
"Non alcoholic beer..."

I have discovered the best tasting non-alcoholic lager in the world.....Becks alcohol free, it's yum!!!!!! I tried kaliber the other week and it was like off feet but I recommend the Becks for you who all fancy the taste without the alcohol!!!!
"Alcohol free lager"

I have to agree with the comment about alcohol free becks. I craved lager and lime in the middle of my pregnancy and after trying numerous awfull tasting ones i came across becks. Its really nice and saw to my craving!! I went through so many bottles of the stuff. So for those who dont want to touch alcohol but wish they could Alcohol free becks is the way forward. Also for ppl who miss wine and dont like the non alcoholic ones try shloer in white grape flavour. its really nice and is a great wine substitute.

Happy Christmas All

i dont think i will be have the tradional xmas dinner this year, which i love. I was on a xmas/double leaving night out last night and i had the normal xmas dinner, as it was mexican there was lots off drink in the other things on the menu, so had to stick to the xmas dinner. Anyway that made me sick half way though so i dont know what i will have. I wont be allowed drinks as i am being taxi driver to my father-in-law, who put told me in a nice way by oh, when you passing my flat to go to nick's mum come in for me.
Ruth i think you should after all you only got 4 weeks left and desrive (sorry cant spell)to pig out for one day.

No nuts for me on christmas day,im managing ok without them, not the biggest fan but dry roasted are my weakness.
Instead of pate im enjoying alot of paste which is strikingly similar to pate so im fine in that dpt along with the prawns and smelly cheeses..
But.. and here comes the big but..
What ive been missing the most is my spirits and diet coke at weekends! Ive been very very good and have contained myself for 25 whole weekends without touching it,the odd weekend ive had a glass of sweet wine though, but tonight ive been very bad and feel so guilty! my partner got himself a half bottle of smirnoff for the weekend but he has been so good by not drinking either.I gave in to a shot, then i gave in to another and another,so ive had three shots with lots of coke. What have i done? My partner knew about the first one but not the other two because i was sneaky about it.The baby is moving around now so i hope she will be ok.I kept telling myself that ive done so well so why not just this once.. Im not telling my midwife!
Hope someone can tell me its not too bad..

I will be having one or two glasses of wine xmas day, i am also making some non alchoholic mulled wine, so the kids can enjoy it too.

i will be indulging in nuts of all kinds, i am a total nut fiend and i craved these with my first pregnancy (mainly almonds and pistachio's)and she was and is perfectly healthy.

I dont eat smelly cheeses, so thats an easy one for me, but i will and do miss my liver pate, once my little one is born i am going to go eat a big plate of liver and chips *drools*.

I have to say i am really excited about this crimbo, normally i dread it but for some reason this year i can't wait.

much love always

I will be having prawn cocktail, i have been eating prawns since i got pregnant cos it says in my pregnancy book that you can eat shellfish as long as it is cooked properly.

I will also be havong a glass of wine on xmas day - i would say i am having about a glass every 2 weeks at the mo, nothing more and no sprirts.

Dont like smelly cheeses but love brie - not going to eat any though.

TBH i am going to have to spread out my xmas day meal as baby is v/high up and it is un-comfortable when i eat too much!!

Will also be eating nuts - but no allergies in my family.

i must say - i am looking forward to all these nice things once the baby is born!!!

Hello Ruth

I can't help or comment on your post because I don't eat any of the foods you have mentioned above. I just wanted to say have fun and enjoy Christmas day and let us know what foods you did end up having.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Hmmmmm, prawn cocktail!!!! My sister-in-law was asking me about that the other day and I said I might have some on that one occasion but she said I shouldn't which made me feel guilty for even having such a bad thought!! Think I'm going to mother-in-laws this year and don't think she does prawn cocktail anyway so I'll see....

I hate stilton or any of the blue cheeses and can live without brie so no sacrifice there.

Peanuts...if there's no history of allergies enjoy them....it's not as if you're eating a pack every day!

I do take one glass of red wine some Saturday nights (actually had 2 glasses couples of weeks ago!) so yes, I will be having a glass on Christmas day and probably one the day after as well.

And I'll be having a fry on Christmas morning with a soft, runny fried egg just to start Christmas day off with a bang!!

Can't believe tomorrow is 1st Dec. already. Having the first of my many Christmas nights out tomorrow night with some friends....won't be quite the same being sober though!!
