"Midwfie could find baby's heart beat"
Posted by frekkles 21 January  at  16:58

Hello, I am really worried as the MW couldnt find babys heart beat. This is my 2nd pregnancy and when I saw my midwife at 12 weeks wth no one she found it straight away. I am 12 weeks and I saw my midwife friday (3days ago) and she couldnt find it. I have had no bleeding and boobs are still tender but thats it no more symptoms. I do not get a scan until 16 weeks so 4 more weeks !!! has this ever happened to any one and everything been ok ??

MW said its 50/50 chance of finding the heartbeat as baby is still low in pelvis but its making me feel sick with worry !!!

I wouldnt worry to much (I know easier said than done) as I went to listen to my babys heartbeat at 15 weeks and the midwife couldnt find it. I had already started to feel the baby move so I knew all was ok.

With all my other pregnancies I have heard the heartbeat at 15 weeks with no problem whatsoever. But I think baby no 5 just wanted to be left alone as I think he knows he has got 4 older brothers making loads of noise and he is just trying to make the most of the peace and quiet while he can.

Take care and keep us updated

"Angel heart doppler"
Posted by vicvic27 7 May  at  23:20

Hi,
I'm expecting my first baby at the end of July and naturally I'm very anxious. The best thing I bought to ease this was a fetal doppler off ebay. It was about 26 pounds and it can pick up the babys heartbeat from 12 weeks. I got mine at about that time and although it takes a while to find it, it is very reassuring. I also went for another option and paid for a private scan which was absolutely lovely, they took their time and it was a very relaxing experience.
I still use the doppler regularly and I have to say it's the best thing I've bought during the pregnancy. Good luck with everything!

"Cud be 2 soon"

I am 13 weeks and went 2 midwife today so she cud listen 4 a heartbeat, she told me she mite not hear it due to baby still bein low in the pelvis. After about the longest couple ov mins ov my life and her askin if i'd had any bleeding!!, she picked up a very quiet heartbeat, took about another min 4 all three ov us in the room 2 hear it but she said it was defo there.

With my first baby they picked heartbeat up at 12 weeks and i remember the midwife commenting on how strong and loud it was, so thought i'd hear the same again. Like u my scan isn't until am 16 weeks, and i think al be anxious until i see my little one on a screen. All my symptoms virtually went at 8 weeks, which made me worry even more.

Am sure that little heart is beating like the clappers in there! Try and go back and c her next week and let her have another listen, personally i think its prob just a bit too soon tp pick it up.

Hiya, basically going to just back up what everyone else said. When I had my 16wk midwife appointment I asked if she would have a listen for the heartbeat and she told me that she wouldnt as where I live (middlesbrough) its policy to not listen for heartbeat until 36wks (she said that that was verging on the ridiculous lol). She refused to listen as she said it was unlikely that she would hear anything and then that would leave her in an awkward position with the hospital as she would then have to explain why she had listened for it so early.

She told me that by my 28wk appointment I might be able to convince her to try then.

Hope everybody on here has put your mind at ease.

"Don't worry !"
Posted by oakleymum 7 May  at  19:13

Hi, I had exactly the same worry at my 11 week antenatal check. Both my midwife and her student couldnt get a heartbeat which made me panic ! However, they only tried because I asked if they would. They had already explained that it was unlikely at this stage. I also have a friend who is a GP and she said she rarely manages to get one this early on as it is so difficult. I am now 26 weeks pregnant and all is well so be patient and your scan will be worth the wait xx

to to back up what everyone else has said, don't panic. My midwife won't even bother looking for it until 16 weeks as she said its next to impossible to find it. First time someone listened for my babies heartbeat I was 18 weeks and they really struggled to find it.

sure everything is absolutley fine

"Dont panic"
Posted by reesy 21 January  at  20:32

In my area the health authority will not listen for the babies heart beat until after 23 weeks because it is so common for them not to find anything and women panic (naturally).

When I went the other day they had students in and asked if they could try to find a heart beat. I was only 17 weeks and she stressed to me 4 times before she would do it that I was not allowed to panic if I couldnt hear anything. Luckily they were shocked because the baby is very close to the front and they caught it straight away. The girl who went in in front of me was 19 weeks and they couldnt hear anything, even though she had a doppler at home and had heard it herself already. It depends on the position of the baby as well.

Stay positive, it's very common not to her anything until the baby is higher and you're further along.

Good luck.

Was this done at your GPs or was it the MW in the hospital? Surely they could do a scan instead of an ultrasound just to put your mind at ease? Maybe ring your MW and suggest this if it is worrying you! Theres no use sitting there worrying away to yourself when a simple scan could put your mind at ease!!! Im a born worrier so I know what its like.

When I went to see my consultant he couldnt find the babies heartbeat at around the same time 12 weeks, but luckily he had a ultrasound next door and it was just that my placenta was sitting at the front shielding the baby so he couldnt pick it up, could be the same problem?

Maybe give your midwife a ring and let her know how much its worrying you and see what she can do for you, she might be able to bring the scan date nearer

Good luck,

the midwife said they don't want to look for the heartbeat until 15 weeks, as she said there is only a slim chance of finding it using the doppler, and they don't like to panic people... my booking in appointment was 16 weeks, as I didn't know I was pregnant until around 15 weeks....and we couldn't find it 1st time as there was alot of interference, we tried later in the appointment and got it, so perhaps 12 weeks is just to early, I'm sure it's fine, baby was perhaps in a funny position.

Best of luck with your pregnancy.

1stly i know its hard but relax! up here they refuse to find a fetal heartbeat until 16 weeks unless nessecery before because they said bubs is so small it could hide and its quite easy not to find it i had an accident last week dr said he'd find it for reassurance and after 5 mins of poking said nope cant find it of a feotal pulse which as you can imagine made me go slightly neurotic * i had a m/c in sept as well* anyway spoke to midwife she found it and it was fine but she said as your has sometimes they can;t find ont until later because it could be too far down hiding etc so don;t worry and try and relax until your scan take care xxx
