"New mum needs advice from other mummies please!"

Hi Guys

So Eden is a week old today and I am loving being a mummy! Need some advice around sleep issues though please!

Eden just will not settle in her crib which is beside mine and David's bed. She much prefers being cuddled up to her mum which is lovely on the one hand but not smething I want to get into long term. She also seems to use my nipples as a comforter to get to sleep as well as for food which is not ideal and to be honest I'm very tired as I'm trying to keep her quiet so as not to wake her Dad who has to be up early for work!

Any advice how I can get her to go into her own bed and settle and should I use a dummy or not? What do you reckon?

Thanks Ladies.
Donna. x

hi hun, my Emilie is nearly 7 weeks now and was exactly the same. if i wraped her in a blanket and fed her then slipped in a dummy when she started to just use me for comfort that sorted the feeding thing, i then put the basket downstairs next to me on the sofa, i cuddle her until she was asleep then put her in the basket and carried her in that when i went to bed.. i know its a bit of a long process but it gave me a couple of hours. also you could try a comfort blanket, if you have a small piece of blanket rest it on your chest as she feeds, when she's having a cuddle after her feed move it to her cheek so she's resting on it, eventually if you put it in the basket with her she'll be able to smell you and it will comfort her.
i got given one of those 'linkadoos' fisherprice swings and wasn't going to keep it but im sooo glad i did cos thats also great for getting her to sleep. we're a long way off a full nights sleep but each week is getting a bit easier.
congratulations on being a new mummy
good luck x x x

i'm from ttc but i've got 2 kids too so thought i'd try to help.

firstly i would give her a dummy. if shes just wanting a suckle as opposed to a feed a dummy will do the trick. try to use it only to get to sleep tho. i made the mistake of giving my 1st whenever she wanted and i struggled to get her of it.

to get her to sleep in her crib, i would put her in but keep your hand on her and sing. i used to stroke their foreheads very gently while singing a lot of gobbledygook and i think because they knew i was there they started to drift of. before they fell asleep tho i'd take my hand away and walk to the door still singing and 9 times out of 10 they would settle.

sorry for the novel but i hope it helps. can i just say edens a fab name btw

tc, gail xx
