| Thread started by: | "To be induced or not to be induced? and when....that is the question!!!" Posted by ruthy123 25 January at 15:18
Hello ladies,
After being given 2 due dates (one by the fertility clinic and one by the hospital) I am currently either 4 days overdue OR 3 days before my due date! Not one of the professionals I have seen in the last 9 months can confirm which date is correct (either the 21st or the 28th!!!) I have therfore requested that my date for induction be Feb 4th (if needs be) This will make me either exactly 41 or 42 weeks pregnant. No-one has argued this but they also didn't advise if I am doing the right thing either and really gave me no opinion. What do you think? I am leaving it too long? It's just I REALLY want a natural birth and think I should give my body as is possible to try and do this. I can't see this happening naturally though and reckon i'll have to be induced whatever! I am not sure what to do and no-one in the NHS is being very helpful!!! I currently feel like this pregnancy could go on for ever, I've had no signs of labour whatsoever and am still extremely comfortable...sometimes I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I'm actually pregnant!!! I have one more check up @ the hospital next week before they will induce me...is this enough? Opinions ladies and also stories of people being induced would be good, both good and bad. As for trying to bring on labour, I've tried it all!!!

I had 3 due dates in the end, the 2nd, 4th and 6th of January. They don't sound massively different but when it's a decision about when to be induced they make all the difference! I too wanted a natural labour and booked my induction date for 2 weeks after Jan 6th, however it seems that the 4th was probably more accurate (long story.) Anyway, I too tried everything and had 3 sweeps to get me going, each one being more favourable than the last. The 3rd sent me in to labour and I delivered my daughter at 40 weeks plus 13 days naturally.
All I would say is that guidelines state a normal pregnancy is 42 weeks. Monitor your babies movements and call the hospital with any concerns. Try and get as many sweeps booked with your midwife or at the hospital as you can and lastly..........good luck.

I really feel for you hun, I had my wee girl at 42 wks I was induced then had my waters broken unfortunately I ended with an emergency section as my pelvis was too small I was massive you think someone would've perhaps checked but apparently with your first they just have to see what happens mmm!!! I would try leave being induced as long as you can, I know that they don't let you go over 42 wks though but that is a bit of a dilema with you not knowing your dates, what is your midwife saying? Have you had a membrane sweep or been offered one??xxx

I was induced with my 2nd daughter at 42 weeks because she just didnt want to come of her own accord * I had a big baby apparently its harder for your body to start labour naturally with big babies* anyway I was 2cm dilated when I went in had 1 lot of gel and about 6 hours later had her in my arms 20 min labour start to finish just had to walk about lots to help gel work etc had gas and air no stitches nothing she was a back to back birth as well I was expecting to b in excruciating pain as I was induced and having a back to back but it wasn;t that different from my 1st. she was 10lbs1 so they are basically expecting me to be induced on y due date or before is signs show im going to have another porker lol for me it really wasn;t that bad I was just pleased to be able to move and breath again I really do hope you go into labour naturally they threatened me with induction on my 1st when I went over by all of 2 days and I went into natural labour the day before I was supposed to b induced * also 4th feb lol my mums birthday* and she was born on 3rd feb will be five this year. Hope all goes well for you take care xx
