"How early should you get your first midwife appointment?"
Posted by milmolmai 4 February  at  20:02

i'm 7 weeks tomorrow and registered at the doctors that i was pregnant, they said i didn't need to see a doctor as hpt are just as good as doctors. so i filled a form in and they said it would be passed on to midwife and then she'd be in touch. that was two weeks ago.
i had a bit of a panic last week and contacted the midwives myself who said she'd put my name in the work book for the next day so my nominated midwife would call me, i'm still waiting for the call!!
i've got to go to doctors tomorrow anyway cos eczema really playing up, so gonna ask them, but thought i'd ask on here just incase can't get in docs.
take care all

From what I have read on here it all depends on where you live, postcode lottery! I live in N.Ireland. Went to my docs at 5wks and he made me my booking in appointment with MW for 11.3wks (this Friday). At the time the doc told me to leave it to as close to 12wks as you will be able to see more, but I could have had one earlier say at 8wks if I had asked. I thought I was getting my scan too at the booking in appointment, but phoned the health centre just to check and the receptionist said no you dont get your first scan to 16wks with us that the MW just listens to your babys heartbeat at BIn. Bummer, me thinks I will be asking for an earlier scan!lol

you have to be 10 wks preg before a midwife will see you in my area, if you have any concerns before then you are told to see a doc. After the 10 week appointment there is no midwife appointments until 24 or 26 weeks.

Good luck with your pregnancy

Im 6wks+4days and in ireland they are so slow at giving the first appointment. Im booked in for one on 8th April which makes me 2 days off 16 weeks. I think thats a disgrace, but according to other girls over here its normal. I think your lucky if yous get one before 10 weeks.

Seen as were the same time gone, have u had any symptoms. My only one was stomach cramps. Woke last week in terrible pain and its happened a few other times but nothing as bad. Im putting it down to bowel movements and growing uterus

Take care

i bet it's nice having someone close to talk to about everything. i told my mum last night that i was pregnant and even though she was excited she says she already knew (she had that feelin)don't want to tell too many people to soon (had miscarriage in nov 06)but fingers crossed everything will be fine this time, feel totally different.
haven't had any sickness yet just feeling sick and retching (sorry tmi)at certain smells.
hopefully won't get the actual sickness but there's still time!!!
have you been doing loads of reading, i've been looking at how big baby is so far hence the 'grain of rice' cos that's how big it is soon it'll be prawn sized poor thing!!
pm me anytime will be nice to go through different things and stages with someone who's the around the same due dat as me, what have you worked your date out to be, mines the 23rd september, can't wait.
take care

yeah she's great she gave me a book and it says its the size of an apple pip, so were calling it pip for now, its mad that it gets so much bigger by only 8 wks. She keeps saying im having twin girls, apparently she is never wrong. when i told my sis she said she had a feeling something was gona happen.
Im addicted to looking up pregnancy week by week and seeing how it grows. I worked it out that im due 25th sept, using the old reliable internet. What did we do before it.

best of luck with this pregnancy

how different books and magazines call the size of the baby different things, i wish i'd seen pip it's sounds so much cuter!!
can't see me taking to calling it a prawn when it gets to that size/shape.
me and OH have been joking that we'll have twins, i've got twin sisters and my great nan had twin boys (along time ago) so you never know, suppose i've had some experience helping my mum with my sisters but not quite the same as having your own, god knows how we'd manage!!
do you get a feeling it could be more than one?
see your due two days after me, 25th is my friends little girls birthday so i'm really hoping i don't have baby that day
going to docs at 10.20 so better go and get dressed.
take care keep in touch with your progress.
love laura xx

Normally your first appointment is at about 9 weeks, but i had mine when i was about 7 weeks. If you are worried, ring your docs and make an appointment to see her, im sure that they will.
Sometimes they just need a kick up the bottom!!LOL.

my surgery will let u see a midwife within a week if you really want your hpt confirming but it isnt mandatory. You should see your midwife has close to 8 weeks has possible I was told by the receptionist so I dont think thats too late, especially has you have the option to see the gp within 7 days if you chose so.

I would be disgusted if they made me an appointment for march never mind april! Usually in england you go through alot of blood tests etc & book your 12 week scan at your first midwife appointment but you would be closer to your 20 week scan by then, its terrible you cant get seen before then!

I found out i was pregnant at the weekend by doing 3 HPTs, i went to see my doctor on monday and he suggested i see a midwife withing the next two weeks.

He said that i should be about 6 weeks pregnant. I saw the receptionist and she said that i needent see a midwife until i was 12 weeks.

My appointment is on 13th May. I feel this is too long to wait??

When i saw the Doctor he didnt even confirm my pregnancy by urine sample he said that because i had 3 positive tests that he is hapy to rely on that.

For all i know i could wait until 13th May and later find out that i am not even pregnant.

I have missed a period but i sometimes feel like i am havind period pains and get a bit worried?? does anyone else have this problem??
