hi, just wanted some info if anyone can help. my sister in law has asked my hubby if she could throw me a baby shower, so he said yes, i'm due on 13th march and have absolutely everything bought from pram, cot, wipes, and even some clothes... cos i don't know wot i'm having i've only bought a few whites and creams (which i'm sick lookin at)!!
so my question is, wot really happens at these things and if i have everything bought wot could they possibly buy me??? i'm not being ungrateful at all, i very much appreciate the gesture, but i'm confused, never been 2 a baby shower b4. any ideas??? x

It went really well. My sis organised it at my mums. I was bit aprehensive bout it, thought we'd all be sitting round bored! But im so glad we did it, it was great! I said its from 1pm til 3pm. Come whenever. We played wats called a nappy cake game. Basically, lots of questions asked by my friends to me (baby stuff) and every question i got right i got a little pressie, eg make up, moisturiser, dummies, rattle, teething thing, mits, booties, pedicure voucher etc. I think all my friends put in £5 or something, and my sis bought it all with that. There were bout 20 of us. There was food there, drink etc. They all bought me a pres too, mainly cute little outfits. I had it all as well so i was a bit confused as to what they would buy. (i kno im having a boy so its prob a bit easier!) Anyway, u just sit round chat, eat, drink (not me!) and its a nice day! Hope urs goes well, if u want anymore suggestions or ideas just let me know. G'luck with the rest of ur pregnancy. Lots of love Becky and boy bump 40+1 x x

Amongst my friends etc baby showers are a matter of course - everyone has one for their first.
I had mine a couple of weeks ago and like you, do not know the sex and had already bought pram, nursery furniture and some basic cream clothes to see me through the first few days/week.
I still got loads of stuff at my shower however from things like some nice hospital pjs for me, more lovely neutral clothes for the baby, a breast pump, bouncy chairs, cds, bath books and books, teddys etc for the baby, bath cuddle robes, baby dressing gown and a few of my friends clubbed together to get me a really expensive changing bag that i had been coveting.
There must be some bits that you would like to get that you haven't thought of yet....baby bath, baby monitors, blackout blind, travel cot......???
Otherwise just get together and have fun!!!
Best of luck Holly

I'd like to have a baby shower but not sure if people will think I'm being a bit demanding, but like someone else said I could just do it as a girl afternoon/evening. I hinted at a friend when she asked that I'd like one but nothing else has been said bout it. Should I just go ahead and tell my mates and family I'd like one or I'm having one and see what happens?
Take care ladies

my friend had a baby shower [we went for afternoon tea at a lovely hotel] and she didn't make a gift list as she didn't want people to feel obliged to buy anything - she just wanted to have a girly afternoon to all her friends before the big day. but we couldn't resist and bought her & the baby presents anyway. i think people just tried to buy her things she wouldn't have already bought, she got some great baby cook books and small play items, little bootees etc and lots of pamper things for her.
i'm hoping to host one [i'm 29 weeks] but we are in the middle of selling our property and haven't got a move date yet so it depends how quickly we can get settled in our a new place. thought it could be abit of a housewarming cum baby shower. as one of the other replies suggested if everyone brought nappies that be really useful.

I'm having a baby shower and I was having a look on the internet and found a site called British baby shower. It gives you a run down of what it's all about. One of the ideas on there, for the mum and baby who have everything, is for people to bring something for a time capsule. You can never have to many nappies and wipes, they could bring photo albums, babys first year books, keepsake boxes, cuddly toys etc. It's whatever you want it to be really, just a chance for your friends and family to celebrate the comming baby. I'm having a 4d scan 3 weeks before the shower so I'll be doing a movie premier for all the girls to see.
Have fun.

I'm afraid, I think they are a lovely idea, but I don't know what happens at them either, are you meant to host it at your own home and do food or maybe someone else holds it? They're quite an American thing aren't they? Maybe browse the net for some ideas... Not much time for planning, I'm due 14th March and although I moan it's dragging, it's coming around really quickly! I suppose people will just buy you more white clothes? Blankets and bits seeing as you have everything else you need? I'd be interested to know myself!

I know I have ages to go, but I'm an event planner for a living so in my nature to organise it!
I'm having mine at a friends house in very early May (Around 24 weeks) and having a BBQ. We're inviting both our friends and family and partner welcome so more of a celebratory thing rather than making people feel like they must bring a gift, and instead just celebgrate together. It's right on the beach too, so hopefully the sun will come out!
