"What happend when i rang midwife about pains..."

I eventually rang my midwife and after her asking a few questions she came streight over to mine and had a listen to the baby (his heart rate was really high compared to normal) and so was mine. She thought i looked flusterd and a bit hot so she sent me to hospital to the prenatal unit to be checked over as she wanted to rule out premature labour and infection.
So, got there and had blood and urine samples taken, heart monitored and baby was listend to on the doppler again and everything was still high. I was getting crampy pains every 30 min lasting for anything from 1min to 5.
They decided that it would be best for me to stay over night becasuse of the pains and because the blood tests came back clear. so over night was given stuff to help me sleep and the pains eased off by the morning and were no longer regular.
The consultant woman came around and asked some more questions and was wondering why the consultant who decided to keep me in hadnt done a speculum to rule out prem labour! (i did think that because it would untimetly say one way or another what was goin on)...Anyway she did that and everyhting was normal (ie closed cervix ect).

So she spoke to me afterwards and said that maby i have thrush as that can cause pains. and when i asked if there was any sign of thrush she said that i have an increase in CLEAR discharge but she was going to give me something to treat thrush just incase!!!

To me it sounds as if they didint know what was wrong so have fobbed me off and kept me in when they really didint need to...aaagggggghhhhhhh!

On the plus side i heard my little man loads and his heart rate did eventually steady back to normal. Just wish they had checked me sooner so i could have been back home relaxing sooner rather than being worried and uptight in hospital.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post about my pains, you were all really helpful.

love kirst and 23+6 boy bump x

At least your mind is at ease, not sure that they werent fobbing you off mind you with the thrush, but at least there was nothing major wrong. And your little mans heart beat is normal again. Now relax and enjoy!

Hi Kirst,

Aw hun, you sound like you have had a rough time lately, glad its getting better!

You were quite lucky to be kept in overnight, when i went in to my local hospital at 23wks with pains, they kept me waiting for about four hours, said that even if i was in prem labour, there was nothing they could do about it anyway and maybe i was better off going home to let nature take its course!

Well after i kicked up a stink about it, they said that they would listen to bubba's heartbeat, the sonic aid that they used did not work, then they took a urine sample and declared that i had an infection and put me on a course of antibiotics. (they also found a doppler that did work and her heartbeat was fine)

Im glad everything is fine tho,

Take care

Yeah the pains are pretty much gone now, My tummy is no longer going hard now ether which is making me feel happyer. I think it was probs just my bump stretching and baby lieing in a funny position which was making braxton hicks painful lol. It was all very odd.
At least i know my midwife is good when you really need her because i always feel like im wasteing her time at appointments

Glad it's all ok, shame aboout having to stay in hospital, it must have been a bit unnerving when nobody knew what was the matter. Worth it to know everything's ok though I suppose?.

Take care

xx
