Thankyou so much!
Well ladies, thankyou very much for sharing your experiences. I'm going to try with the waterbirth again, but if the pool isn't free, or the labour is too long, then will consider the epidural. In answer to the lady who asked about the waterbirth, I would definately reccomend it. It speeded things up for me and when Dexter was born, he was just so chilled out and has loved baths ever since. It was a much nicer experience and if I could guarentee the third would be like that, then I wouldn't be so worried. It's amazing how much it relaxes you and you can still have gas and air. I was 6 centimeters when I got in the pool and had Dexter in my arms an hour later! My sister in law had two waterbirths aswel and she got in the pool both times at 4.5cm and gave birth an hour later.Beware of floating poos though! Good luck everyone! (I still think if I could have a few gins, labour would be a walk in the park! There's the answer, a few gins and a trip to the local baths.) xxx Good luck everyone

Hiya
I had an epidural with my first as i was in alot of pain and a long labour, it got rid of all the pain it was great. The only thing was when i was 10cm dilated i could not feel anny contractions it was the midwife putting her hand on my stomach that told me when to push. Just go with the flow, if you need it then have it. With my second it all ended in an emergancy c-section! And this time it will be an elective c-section! Hope that is a little help. Loadsa a love Jan n 20+2week girl bump. xxx

I had one...
i ha a epidural and it was fantastic. it took all pain away but i could still feel a contraction... like pressure but no pain. i had the most calm and excellent birth and i would do it all again with a epi. i always said i wouldnt have one but the gas n air was crap and i got pre eclampsia so they suggested i had it to fetch my BP down. i will say that they couldnt get the catheter in my hand so put it in my wrist... then when they finally got the epi in my back after about 6 attempts it didnt work! so they gave me pethidine and it knocked me out. and when they fetched me back round 30mins later they had given a stronger epi and i could feel nothing!! i was a lil upset cos 30mins later my waters went and i was 10cm..... so if i hung on a lil while i might have been able to do it myself! i then had to wait a hour to push and it took a hour to push. it was so calm and i was watching the head in a mirror! i was also on fone to my mum while waiting to push!
the afterpains arent too good... you get back ache for a few days and you cant get straight in shower after birth cos you cant feel nothing. it took me about 12hours to feel my legs again and had to be helped to the toilet. i was lucky that i didnt tear and had no stiches cos thats one of the main things that can happen from a epi. i think that if your pushing for more than a hour then thats when you have to have help like ventrose or forceps.
you decide when the time comes.... cos its your 3rd you should have a quick labour!

Hi
i had an epidural with my 1st after 8 hours of terrible contractions and for 2 hours i was pain free it worked a treat in that sense but i'm not allowed to have one this time as it damaged nerves in my right leg so i was in hospital for longer after the birth of my son as i couldnt walk as my right leg was numb from top to bottom, it is still weaker than my left leg now and theres nothing they can do for me except physio ,
i must admit though it was a huge relief during labour and the main thing was my little one arrived safely! its very very rare that epidurals have a negative effect on people and they cannot say why it happened to me!
hope all goes well laura and 25 + 4 week girlie bump!

I had an epidural
with my first and it was a god send!!! felt no pain at all, i did have to have a catheter though. on the down side though you wont be able to have a shower straight after and i suffered from a really bad back around the needle site for about 2-3 weeks after, but that didnt put me off wanting one with my second but didnt have time.

Epidural
Hiya
I'm currently pregnant with my 1st and wont be having a Epidural due to the fact that I have heard, altough it is excellent pain relief, you might feel really groggy and in a daze after giving birth. Lets face it after all the hard work we've put into carry our little bundles and getting them into the world safely wouldnt you rather be able to focus on your little one?
I know I'm not much help but I can but pass on what I hear.
Take care

My story!!!!
Hiya,
I had an epidural with my little lad who was born last november, as for the pain relief it was fantastic, as soon as it went in i felt nothing after that from my boobs down which was great as the contractions were coming thick and fast, the down side i would say it has is that it can slow the contractions down or even stop them which it did towards the end of my labour and i had to be cut open and a ventouse used to pull him out as i couldnt feel when i was getting the contractions to enable me to push him out, but overall the pain relief was fantastic but not sure i would have another obne just due to the fact i couldnt feel what was happening come the end!!!! Hope this helps?? xxx

Hi
hi i havent had any epidural as im expecting my first baby, but iv heard it can paralise you but it doesnt happen often, i asked midwife about this but said it never hardly happens thats why people dont mention it. Its supposed to be good to take the pain away too but cuz u cant feel your contractions it makes it a bit more difficult. Good luck brooke and 37 week bump x

I had
An epidural after 17 houres of really slow labour and was so tired i couldnt concentrate on my breathing anymore and didnt get on with the gas and air. As soon as the epidural kicked in it was pure bliss the pain was gone and i managed to get some sleep. I had a top up just before i was ready to start pushing which ment i couldnt feel any contractions but could see them on the monitor and could see how much they would have hurt was pritty cool....The midwife will tell you when to push and you know because of the monitor I pushed Jade out in just 20 mins 1st birth. You are pretty much stuck on the bed as you cannot move your legs and babys heartbeat is monitered and you do have to have a cafiter to empty your bladder and it can take a while to were off after the birth. If you can cope without it then properly best to and you seem to have coped well in your last births so its a case of wait and see how things progress. I am planning a homebirth this time round so i cant have it but if your having a long labour and just need a restbite then it is a god send. Hope this helps a little bit T.C Shelly 17+6bump
