Blood test results...

I just rung the doctors and asked for my blood test results. The doctor said i was having my level of hcg measured as just found out im pregnant. I also had to do a urine test which was sent to the lab. The receptionist said the results hadn't been read by doc yet but said there is no bacterial growth and it isnt yielding anything so its negative?? HELP!! i do no understand! im so confused!!

Got my results!

Hiya girlies just thought i would let u know i got my blood results today from the DOCTOR! The receptionist had read out my urine results. My HCG levels are increasing really well and im between 5 - 6 weeks. have a scan in 3weeks time to confirm exact dates. I have a rough due date of 23rd - 31st october! Thanks for your replies!

Urine result

Hi,
Think you'll find that's your urine result. I work for a GP (I'm not a receptionist don't worry)and thats what a negative urine sample would state so don't worry.
I agree that receptionists (not all) should be gagged when it comes to giving out results, especially if they haven't been seen by the GP yet.
Your GP will clarify everything tomorrow, but it is worth mentioning to him/her what you were told and at least that way the receptionist concerned may be told not to do it again.

Hi girls! thanks for the replies! i decided to go up to the doctors in the end and i have got an appointment with the doctor tomorrow at 10 to discuss them. I was thinking maybe she read me the urine sample results?? as they check the urine for bacteria to make sure there is no infections. When she said negative it just really worried me as i had a miscarriage 7weeks ago and conceived straight away without a period...so i am sooo nervous...dont want it to happen again! The first thing i thought was oh no the baby has died and its all going to happen again! Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow morning!

I would demand to speak to a doctor, receptionists should not give out results - they aren't medicallty trained and therefore how can they explain something correctly if they don't even understand what they are talking about!

I have had a similar thing from a receptionist before, I was told that I had a negative result - the fact actually was that I had an inconclusive result as the bloods had been contaminated. ANd the bacterical growth thing sounds very odd?!?

Call back and ask ro speak to someone who knows what they are talking about - I would

not surprised you're confused, what the receptionist said doesn't make much sense to me either, if the test was to check your HCG levels what's the 'bacterial growth' thing about! If I was you I'd make an appointment and go and speak to the doc yourself for a proper analysis of your results, might get some sense that way. My docs receptionists won't even discuss blood test results over the phone as they're not qualified to interpret them properly, sounds like that's what has happened with you. Hope you get some answers hun, let us know how you get on.

i would ring back at the end of the day as doc may have read them by then if not ask the receptionist what its means! soz not much help as im not sure what it means either.
