| Thread started by: | "I'm probably stressing over nothing but...." Posted by silvergirlracer 4 March at 21:25
Finally got a call from the Midwife today to book my first appointment but its not for another two weeks.
I'll be exactly 11 weeks then. She seemed quite relaxed about the whole thing but i'm a bit stresso worrying about whether this is too late.
I think i've been doing far too much reading and am worried that first scan should be at around 12 weeks and if I'm only seeing her for the first time at 11 weeks it will all be too late - particularly for NT scan that needs to be between 11 and 13 weeks. Gosh, at one point today I was even looking up having first scan done privately just in case NHS don't pull their finger out.
Like I said I've probably been reading way too much and being far too sensitive but this is my first pregnancy so I have NOOOOOO idea!
We've decided not to tell anybody until we're sure everything is okay so this is the only place that I can share.
Your experiences of first midwife and scan appointments would be really helpful.
Thanks

I was 10+4 wks when I saw midwife, think its pretty standard to be honest. She gave me the forms to contact hospital then to book my own scan in.
I got my scan at 13+6 weeks (the last day fro having them) I could of had it ealier though as its not difficult to get a scan time, its just I was on holiday between 11 and 13 weeks so it was the earliest date I could get in.
don't worry you'll have plenty of time.
My one comment though is that midwife care is rubbish. I have still only seen mine once and won't see her again until 28 weeks! again standard for my area (berkshire)

I sw my midwife when I was 9 weeks. She did all the usual stuff and said it would be 10 days approx before I hear from the hospital for my scan. The following week (8 days after midwife) my appointment came through and its tomorrow.
I am 12 weeks now.
I hadn't realised the Nuchal (sp) wasn't offered every where. My hospital do it so I ticked for every test they offered

i didn't get my first appt till i was 18 weeks and scan at 16 weeks. had very bad bleeding and had 2 early scans but the hops lost my notes so was really late in getting to see someone which i was really annoyed about.
My hosp don't offer the Nuchal scan on NHS you have to pay to have one privatley unless your in a high risk group so if you really want one then i'd suggest looking into this yourself and booking one it needs to be done between 12-14 weeks.
ended up having triple test done at my fiest appt as they were so late
just push for a scan but hopefully your'll be fine Lis and 34+4week girl bump x

Hey I was the same as you, MW booking in appointment at 11wks. Over here in N.Ireland, you dont get your 1st scan to 16wks, but I told them that I wanted an earlier one due to me worrying there was nothing there and not sleeping. I had to be very persistant to get it! I got it the next week at 12wks. We dont have the nuchal fold scan over here either...I am a keen internet researcher like yourself!lol So I was a bit worried about the timescale for getting tests done. They do bloods here at 15/16wks to test for Downs/Spina B.
Good luck with the MW and remember if you dont ask you dont get! Sharon 14+2wk bump xxx

First of all, congratulations and don't worry! I felt exactly the same with my first baby and also had my first m/w appointment at 11 weeks. I was constantly worrying it was too late and wouldn't get a scan for weeks after, but actually had my scan come through for 13 weeks so it all worked out fine. As for the NT scan, most hospitals don't offer them anyway unless you are particularly high risk or have a history, so it's likely you won't have or need one. They will check for most abnormailities through your blood results and then the full scan at 20 weeks.
This time I saw the midwife at 9 weeks and had my first scan at 11 weeks, although they put me back a week so was actually 10 weeks at the time. It was quite different from my scan at 13 weeks with first baby, you'd be surprised how much they develop in just 3 weeks at this stage. So don't fret, and just think if your scan is slightly later than 12 weeks then you will get a better more detailed picture of baby! I know the wait is frustrating but when it gets here, it will totally be worth it! I think the wait is worse between the 12 and 20 week scans, that's 8 weeks!! At least you should only have to wait a couple more weeks to see your bean.
Good luck with it and hope it all goes well for you.
