28 week midwife appointment

afternoon ladies,

I cant believe ill be 28 weeks tomo!!!!!!

anyway i have a midwife appointment tomo at 4.20 and have to do that glucos intolerance diabetes test thingys, any one else had this done?
It sais that i have to drink lucozade before i go and no food. Can i eat during the day though? I would have thought if they were testing for diabetes any food would not make the results very accurate. but surely they cant expect a pregnant woman to wait till 4.20 to eat!!!!!???

Also,, what else goes on at the 28 week appointment?

Thanks ladies!

I'd ring the midwife

For 2 reasons firstly I think it's a bit much to ask a pregnant woman to starve all day and secondly I thought the usual glucose tolerance test was to have you bloods taken first then drink the lucozade before your bloods were taken again??
Apologies in advance if I am wrong but I work for a GP and that's the usual procedure (may be more than one procedure though so don't take this as gospel)
It is worth checking though as I'd hate you to starve all day and then be told they couldn't do it

Thanks

I spoke to the doctor and he said i cant eat at all since midnight tonight!!!!! and he said the midwife should have booked you the first appointment so i would be so hungry but she was obviously feeling mean!

really not sure if i can go that long, ill be crawling in there!!! lol and hope i dont faint as im going alone

Not sure!

I've got mine tomorrow as well but haven't heard anything about a glucose tolerance test. I'm hoping I don't have to have one as I can't even get out the house in the morning without a bowl of cereal....
Does sound like an extreme form of torture making a pregnant lady wait til 4.20!

Had gtt last week

Nothing to do with midwife appointment tho, that was seperate, went to hospital for GTT first thing in hte morning, having been allowed only water since midnight, the take your blood, then give you about a pint of lucazade(yuk) then sit you in the waiting area for 2 hours then do blood again then you're free to go, if this is the way they do yours take some food for after the 2nd test as I felt rough for the rest of the day having not eaten. As I said midwife was seperate and she took blood for anaemia etc only.

hope this helps

Thats stupid

they usually do them early in te morning specifically so you dont starve all day may be it woudl be worth ringing your hospital and asking if you can have it done earlier in the morning there

Hi

I have my 28 week appointment next week and no one has mentioned this too me, mind I haven't seen my midwife since 10 weeks.

Why it is everyone seems to get different treatment depending on where they live/which midwife they see - doesn't make any sense to me!!!

x

And,

my midwife is only there on a tuesday so i cant phone her to ask! ...

Oh no!

I cant eat until 4.20!!!! what! lol!

It just sais on the letter she gave me that i need to drink 275mls of lucozade 45 mins before my appointment, thats all! lol

As i saw a replacement midwife she didnt explain anything to me and when i asked her all she said was read the letter. lol!

useless.

How stupid starving a pregnant woman all day.

Hey

bloody hell, 28 weeks already, it doesnt seem that long ago you were having the problems early on, cant believe thats about 20 weeks ago. Doesnt time fly?? Sorry cant help with the test but its just all the normal checks, my mw talked about breastfeeding too. Good luck hun

Hi

i think u should check wot time ur having ur glucos tolerance test because wen i had mine it was early in the morn and at the hosp they do them early because they take blood then give u the drink which is not lucozade its much thicker then 2 hours later u go back for more bloods so just give them a ring and check good luck leanne
