Im really confused....

i hope someone can help me out here as i thougt i had my head around this.

for the past 3 weeks my mid wife had wrote 3/5 palpable on my notes which i assumed to mean i was 3/5 engaged but today she has told me that i am now engaged......well i thought the 0/5 was when the head was coming out?

Can anyone explain as i didnt like to ask my mid wife - she's lovely but sometimes i think she thinks i know what she is talking about all the time.

Thanks

Sooo confusing

every health care worker seems to work differently, this thing seems to be so confusing and each website says something different...my consultant said I was engaged and he made a comment saying yeh, the head is defiantly fixed in my pelvis or something, that was at 39wks exactly, but wrote in my notes under the relation to brim section 3/5th....Donna told me that 1/5th they can see the babys head...she asked her MW that!
I'm seeing my MW friday (my due date) so I'm going to ask her to clear this one up for me!

Sorry I'm no help, i'll let you know what I find out Friday.

Thanks

I saw the same mid wife i usually see so its her that has wrote something different. Just spoke to me friend who has had 2 and she seemed to thing it was so many 5ths until you were totally engaged then once engaged thats it, it cant pop back out? i dont know how they can tell just by feeling, i assumed they would need to do an internal!

I suppose all that matters is that it is healthy, i am just looking for every sign that it might be coming!!

I know

I know the feeling!
I haven't really had any signs, I had a few uncomfortable braxton hicks at about 36 weeks, now I can't even be sure I am having braxton hicks, occasionally I notice my belly goes very hard, but without any pain or discomfort what so ever...I have definatly had no false labour contractions, I have had no increased discharge/show/plug or anything (tmi, sorry), occasionally I get a sharpish feeling very low down (but it doesn't hurt just feels strange) but I figure that is pressure from the babys head or something?
Spoke to my Mum who had no signs that labour was imminent with either my brother or myself, until her waters broke, so perhaps it'll be the same for me...???
What signs have you had that things could be close?

None!

Same as you really, my belly goes hard on and off all day every day, my mid wife said that this is painless braxtn hicks and a good thingas it 'trains your uterus'i hve put this down to rlt tablets.

Other than that i get the occassional (and i mean very occassional) period pain which lasts about a second and i think i imagine that!!

No show, no increased discharge nothing.

My mum said that she went for a mid wife appointment when i was 1 day late to be told she was 3cm dialated and that she will have me that day....24 hrs later i showed up!! its weird actually cos i am due the 21st and it is my b'day the 19th, mymum was also told she was having a big baby (my mid wife told me the same thing this morn) and i was only 6 1/2 lb and i have put on exactly the same mount of weight as my mum, strange!!

Maybe

our pregnancys are similar to our mothers then, I wonder whether it is a genetic thing? Only, my mum had some sickness and thankfully I didn't - but that's a minor difference I suppose.
I drink RL tea, so maybe thats the reason BH are painless then? I don't suppose your MW said whether or not this would have any bearing on real contractions?

My baby is due this Friday 14th, my birthday is 20th, I bet that is when baby will decide to make its appearance!!

I went for extra scans re.baby size, they make me think I'm carrying a toddler not a baby, it'll probably walk out of hospital! ha ha!

Oh bless

i really wanted to go for a scan to put my mind at rest but mw was havin none of it!! i knew i was big it just bothered my when an old lady in tesco came up to me and asked if it was twins!! only old people can get away with that, when i said no she took in a deep breath and said, 'well dear, i thiks that might hurt'!! i just went bright red and didnt know what to say, dh thought it was hilarious!

mw said that contractions are supposed to be 'more useful' when you have taken rlt but wouldnt comment on the level of pain i might get.....her usualy reply, 'how long is a piece of string'.....helpful!! i also asked if she thought it might come soon, she told me she was't a clairevoyant (not sure thats spelt right!)

Oh

I saw MW at 38 weeks and asked the same question...she said she thought baby would be late! Although, I stay optimistic, she didn't feel my cervix or do any sort of internal, so what does she really know?! She has two days, then I give in and she will have been right!! lol...I get on really well with her though, I'm lucky I get on so well with my MW I suppose, some women seem to have right cows!

I have also been asked whether I am carrying twins, I've been told on several occasions that I won't last until my due date (i'm proving that wrong) and a lady also told me that she'd never seen a bump so big (now that was embarrassing, I have seen some BIG bumps in my time, lol) then again I just turn around and say that the doctors have said it's measuring a little big whilst I turn a rosy, crimson sort of colour...

I hope the RLT has some benefit, I'm hopeful that it will help...
