Sweep

hey emma
i had a membrane sweep with my first child. the only way i can describe is like a smear test. but undignified and not very comfortable. try and relax during it and you should be fine. this was ten years ago so it may be slighty different now.
im now 32wks with my second and hope that i dont need one.

Hiya...

i had one. luckily i was already in labour (contractions every 10mins lasting 20secs) i had to have a sweep cos i got pre eclampsia... so they gave me one to get things going quicker. immediatly the contractions went to every 3mins lasting 30-40secs. few hours later i had my little girl!
i did find it quite uncomfortable and it made me cry!

good luck

It's uncomfortble, mine didn't work, but it's worth a shot. I was tense when i had mine just try to relax x

Thank you

......for your replies, its because i have high blod pressure that they are giving one to me i also had pre-eclampsia with my other 2 children, fingers crossed it works my husband has gone out and bought me a birthing ball so i can get bouncing on that also.
Thanks again and good luck with your pregnancies.

Sweep

hi emma,

this is a subject close to my heart as i have had 2 this week!

The 1st one was fine, and loosened the tip of the mucous plug, but the second one which i had today hurt like hell, i guess it depends on the midwife doing it and how long thier fingers are.

The one i had today was totally brutal, and made me bleed slightly, but thats because my blood pressure has risen and i they wanted to get me started.

i hope the one you have is not that bad

Good luck

Hey!

I had a membrane sweep before I had my 3rd. It was only uncomfortable, not painful......kinda like a smear. I guess it depends on individuals though. It worked for me anyway as I had my baby the next day! I do think that they only work if things are kind of ready to happen anyway, I was a week overdue at the time.
Hope yours isn't too uncomfortable!
Good luck love Trace xxxxx
