Diy sweep (warning, tmi!)

To encourage the arrival of my third baby (in order to aleviate the water retention in my ears!) my midwife suggested hankypanky, 3 times in 24 hours. Thankfully, my hubby politely declined this offer and I doubt Dermot O'Leary has a spare half hour to help out a hugely pregnant lady.
So, I was wondering, is it possible to do a sweep yourself? I asked the MW, she said that it is just an internal with a bit of a rummage, therefore, in theory, you could. I would disagree, I had a go (I know, yak!) but really I think you would have to have the fingers of ET for it to be a success.
I am now wondering whether it would be possible with the assistance of er...a gadget, possibly from Ann Summers? See how desperate I have become? Hope I haven't repulsed or put you all off your tea!

Monday!

I'm due on Monday, but my last baby was a week early. There was no untoward encouragement that time, just a long walk and a bath in lavender oil, followed by hours of bouncing on me ball, but I'm too lazy to do that this time!
I just hate the idea of a midwife trying to move things along. I don't object to them being anywhere near the business end when I am in labour, because I am in too much pain and too excited to care, but the thought of them having a quick butchers when I have a full face of make up on makes me feel nauseus. Especially, if they can't reach or it doesn't work. What will I talk about? will she ask me if I'm going on holiday this year like they do at the hairdressers?

Hiya

I have to say this post has made me chuckle.

Just wondered how far gone you are? Dont worry I wont be trying it yet still got 5 1/2wks to go.

Still trying!

Well ladies, I have to admit, I did give it a go. I have to be careful not to be too graphic here, for fear of you all thinking I'm a bit of a weirdo!
About an hour later I had a good two hours of what I believe were contractions (much stronger than braxtons hicks, but managable) then they stopped!
Therefore, I have "experimented" every day and sure enough, the same thing happens a few hours later.
So. I am hoping that maybe I am already a few centimeters without realising as a result of my own, shall we call it, initiative.
For those of you who require the real nitty gritty, I reccomend that you use your gadget with the extra bit (ears, sorry!)pushed out of the way to ensure maximum entry, unless you have a more up to date version than mine(without ears).
I hope to God it works, because I am really looking forward to telling the booking in midwife my genious idea! Don't tell the hubby though!
I would be very interested to know if anyone else has been successful in this area.

Did you...?

Hiya,
did you ever try out the diy sweep? I hate the thought of anyone giving me a sweep but got to thinking the same thing as you when my MW explained all they do is sweep their fingers around the cervix to release the mucus plug......surely we could do this ourselves...or with help from partner...or handy gadget like you mentioned??
just wondered if you've tried it!
