"Subchorial haematoma?"

Has anyone ever heard of this or had one and been OK?

When I went for 12 week scan, I said I'd been having bleeding/spotting every few weeks (and infact I have again today) and he pointed out on the scan a dark circle which he said was where it was coming from, he didn't say why, and he seemed fairly laid back about it.

Looking at the notes he's written up for us he's written "small subchorial haematoma in endocervical canal measuring 8mm x 8mm which would account for bleeding".

Trouble is - when I try and look this up on the internet I don't seem to get anything back in plain English and I don't know whether this is going to get better or worse.

I'll ask midwife ASAP I think, but wondered if any of you had any idea's or experience? I'm quite scared is all.......

Thanks
N

I really appreciate your answers, you've settled me down loads knowing it's possible to work out OK, thank you so much.xxx

Why does pregnancy have to have so many stressful things that just happen for no reason?! it's not fair!!

He did say it wasn't affecting baby so I just pray it stays that way...

I had this at around 8 weeks and bled on and off for 2 weeks, baby is doing well and they put it down to just one of those things some women get,

I know its scary but try to relax, if baby is doing well then dont worry, thats all that matters!

i had this. its a small blood pocket which can be located anywhere mine was behind the placenta and was the cause of some very heavy clotting bleeding i had at 9 and 10 weeks. i was told that it should clear up by itself and it did, by my 16 week scan it had gone and so had the bleeding.

try not to worry but i would call midwife if it gets worse. try and relax and next time you go for a scan ask them to check its gone.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

I'm not 100% sure but think this is just a small pocket of blood inside the womb, quite common and nothing at all to worry about. Haematoma means blood clot and I've heard a few people who've had bleeding during pregnancy mention docs have explained there are sometimes little collections of blood in the womb, completely separate from baby and no real reason for them but they often seem to be the cause for bleeding or spotting without posing any risk to the pregnancy. Hope that puts your mind at rest for now but defo mention to the m/w and get a proper explanation.

Lotsa love,

hi hun,
I understand that you are worried but surely they would have said if this was something to worry about .
Im sorry that I dont have any experience of this .. why dont you ring the antenatal unit at the hospital ?? just say that u are concerned and wanted to know what it means .. thats what i would do. He should have explained it to you really,
