| Thread started by: | "Part time work - how do you work out the salary?" Posted by shotofjd 28 April at 22:32
Hi ladies
I know I have HEAPS of time to decide what I'll do about work once our flump has arrived but does anyone know how to calculate what salary you'd get when working p/t? I'm a frantic worrier when it comes to finances and just not sure what the best thing is to do. We both get Busy Bee vouchers through work, but with the stupid cost of living these days I may have to go back f/t anyway. Its so annoying how half our pay gets eaten up with childcare costs. I feel guilty already knowing I'm having to leave the baby with someone else .
Sorry for the rant. My mind is just going into superdrive for advance thinking at the mo.
Love Sharon & 11 wk flump xx

Thanks ladies. God,I could worry for the world and his wife at the mo lol. I think I'd prefer p/t as at least I'd spend more time with our bubs. It will be hard though not being independent and earning the extra cash. Its all swings and roundabouts. As I say, still plenty of time to think about it lol.

hi ! basically you work out what your anual salary (FT) would be ,then say you gonna work 3 days a week you work out what 3/5ths of the anual would be ie 3 days out of a 5 day working week . eg annual salary is £10,000 and you return for 3 days a week... then new wage is 3/5 of anual =£6,000
you also work out your leave and bank holidays this way.
hope this helps...always pays to plan ahead xx

I returned to work 2 weeks ago and I'm so envious that other people are getting to look after Charlie. When I look at his daily diary and they've recorded that they helped him brush teeth or that he enjoyed feeding ducks my blood boils as it should be ME. I'm not a neurotic first timer, he's number 4. Fortunately number 5 is coming in June and I'm finishing work again in 3 weeks so I can prolong the attachment agony till next year. Part time salary is pro rata, for example a 2 day week is an exact 2/5 th of your current salary and so on. You can have a check done by Welfare Rights Officer or sometimes in a local resource to have a calculaton done to see what your best options are. The service in my area has advised that I come for a calculation when next bout of mat leave starts with payslip. Not only does it seem foolish to work fulltime and shell out half your wage on childcare but someone else gets to hang with your pride and joy. There's a webpage you can do a rough calculation for yourself to find out if you will receive Working Families Tax Credit etc. Have a look using what your reduced salary will be. good luck
