your replies really put my mind at rest and the scan was brilliant. Have uploaded the pic on my profile if anyone wants a look, they put me back by 2 days so I'm officially 12+2 weeks with nov 9th as my due date. Thanks again for stopping me from panicking,
lotsa love, Clare and rapidly expanding bump xxx

"Hey " Posted by butterfly3333 29 April at 15:22
How did you get on? I had my 1st scan at what I thought was 12wks, but when they measured babs they put me back a few days to 11wks. So they will measure little one for you and give you an EDD. Take a urine sample with you as you may need a full bladder for the scan. Consultant will make further appointments for you to see him/her, my next one was at 32wks. I asked about the Downes/combined blood tests and the consultant talked us through that and gave me info and made an appointment for them to be carried out. Your results from the previous bloods/tests with MW will be stuck into your chart when you hand it in at reception so the consultant has it when he/nurse takes more blood and bp.
Its a fantastic feeling seeing littlin for the 1st time...very emotional time for me as up to then I was questioning was there really a baby in there!lol

"Hello" Posted by jan1232 29 April at 10:42
This is known as your booking in appointment so you will have a scan first, you need a full bladder, what I usually do is have a urine sample bottle ready at the hosp so after the scan I can fill it up!lol after your scan they do all the paper work with you, about you and your partners health and family history. After all the paper work you will have routine bloods done. Dont panic about it its all fairly simple and lots of fun!! Enjoy your scan and dont forget to ask for your pic. Let me know how it all goes. You wil be fine.

"Good luck!" Posted by hopeful9 29 April at 10:40
I think the MW should have given you a urine sample container at your booking in appointment but if she didn't I'm sure they'll be able to give you one at the hospital. Apart from that it's scan and blood. They do the nuchal fold test (if you want it) and check everything's healthy.
Good luck and hope it all goes really well for you!

"Hi" Posted by louisey2 29 April at 07:27
Hi Clare,
They will just scan you and you will see baba for the first time :+) The checks they do are very simple they just have a little look at baby on screen and check that all the vital signs are there (heart beat) and that it has all the legs and arms it should have (bless), you can pretty much see everything, it is amazing- you can see the spinal cord and even the baby opening and closing its mouth at this early stage! I remember that its quite twitchy at this early stage so dont be alarmed if its very jumpy on the screen :+)
and they confirm or maybe alter the dates that you have calculated so you will get your proper due date (woohoo)They do more in depth checks at your 20 week scan (like looking at thickness of back of the neck which is to do with downs syndrome, position of the placenta and the sex of the baby if you want to know etc) Good luck and enjoy the experience..you wont be able to remove the smile on your face afterwards :+)
