"Breast feeding!"

Hey Ladies,

Just curious to see who out of the new mums is breast feeding or mums to be who's planning to breastfeed?

I'm breastfeeding Lily, which I must admit really takes it out of me, but I do love when shes properly latched on and looks so content, like I'm doing something really special for her.

My breasts are so sore though and I'm having to use nipple shields, I know formula would be easier for me, just so torn.

My other half is feeling really left out too, he thinks I'm bonding a lot while I'm feeding which I am, and he feels like he isn't, I expressed some last night, which was hard and hes given her a feed today.

Please tell me it gets easier!

Emily and Lily ( 6 days)

Oh yea she had her heel prick test today and was as good as gold!

xx

Hi Emily....

dont worry it does get easier! I was in agony for the first week or so. The MW suggested I put breast milk on each nipple after every feed and allow the air to get to them. This created a kind of 'seal' and I'm sure it stopped my nipples from cracking/bleeding. My wee boy is 3 weeks old now and breast feeding actually feels pleasurable at times! So it does get easier. It's just that you have to put up with feeling like a bit of a milk machine in the beginning! Caelan is still feeding every 2 ours (sometimes every hour!) butmy partner does the midnight feed with expressed milk. He really enjoys it. If I could express more I'd let him do more feeds but I find expressing hard and time consuming.......any tips on makig it easier ladies would be appreciated!!

im currently bf Carlos and my nipples have been in a great deal of pain but i have been coping really well and i only have to get up 1maybe 2 times a night to feed him he is a very good boy i fel so lucky but when it comes to feeding him i feel alot of pain but i have cream for my nipples which helps alot so it hasnt been too bad. my hubby doesnt feel left out but he has told me that he would like to feed him as well. as they say breast is best and i enjoy every minute with Carlos feeding him.
as i had c-section i was unable to get the chance to bond with Carlos but my hubby was holding him the time so he got the chance to spend the first half hour bonding with Carlos while i was getting stitched up lol.
so i guess he was lucky to have had that chance normally it would be the mother.

anyway goodluck with bubz and congratz

I am breastfeeding my little boy. He is almost 6 months old and will soon be on the real thing!!! To start with, I had really badly cracked nipples, it was so bad that I used to dread feeding time and it made me cry in pain! But I stuck with it, much to OH's parents disgust and now I am all healed, Kieran is sleeping through and is such a happy little man. I really believe it is best for baby, me and other half are just getting over a cold and Kieran so far hasn't had a sniffle of it! Also, he hasn't had nappy rash (yet), not sure if its to do with BF.

My OH does most nappy changes when he is home, takes him in the bath with him, gives the odd bottle. Kieran loves his Daddy to bits, as soon as he gets home from work Kieran is constantly looking at him waiting for his Dad to look back and then gives him the hugest grin!

Give yourself a big pat on the back, it's not as easy as you expect it to be.

I breastfed for 4 1/2 months and I too loved the bond, my husband bathed our daughter every night which too is a very special bond, the baby has to completely trust and just looks up at Daddy, this helped my husband feel really involved x

Annemarie + baby due today!

Hi Annemarie,

Bet you must be anxious to meet your little one, any signs yet? Lily hates being wet though so she screams her little head off and so probably not very bonding for him, I just got to get on with it though I think.

My first was 12days late and ended up an Emergency Section, I think my stomach is harder to break out of than jail! I havent even had any BH or anything yet, ive tried all the methods to start contractions and im fed up now, just going to let nature take its course!

As for Lily not enjoying her bath time, I dont like to tell mothers what to do, but with my daughter she hated being bathed, thats until I heated the water up for her, then she loved it, give it a go and let me know how you get on as this worked for my nephew and my friends daughter too! In hospital the water the MW bathed the babies in was rather cold so I thought this MUST be how its done, however, as I said adding some hot really helped x

I want to give BF a go and for all my good intentions I just know its all going tot go to pot.

But Ive planned to buy a dual electric BF pump, the freezer bags, and those new BF teet's for bottles, that are suppose to stimualte a real nipple!

Like I said good intentions for the time being and the fact Hubby and get up and do the night time feed...lol..

breastfeed so its not an option i do try for the first few days just incase that miricle occurs but at least they get some colostrum but i just dont produce enough milk to sustain a baby and its usually all gone by about 4 days after birth so i have no option but to bottle feed but then again as you say it is nice for me and hubby to do it plus as my children are older they like to help as well

i'm breastfeeding Isabella and yes have the sore nipples too but i love it. i know Phill would love to feed her too buti can't cope with formula and i love the timei get to spend with her as im the only one who can do it.

i just hope it does get easier as Isabella seems to feed every 3/4 hrs one minute and then every hour or so the next.

love to you both

Phill changes her hen he's at home and she loves him giving her a bath so he gets involved that way. Isabella cried the first few baths but then one day i put her in with me and she loved it and then Phill gave her a bath and she was very happy so think she just needed to feel secure in the water.

hope he finds what works for him to bond with Lily

lots of love
Lis and Isabella x
